New York City FC today announced that it has signed Defender Kai Trewin from A-League side Melbourne City FC through the 2028\u201329 season, with\u00a0an\u00a0option\u00a0for 2029\u201330.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The 24-year-old Australian international will join the Club upon receipt of his ITC and P-1 Visa.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Trewin joins New York City from City Football Group sister club Melbourne City FC after making 47 appearances, scoring three goals, and providing one assist across all competitions. The Defender also made six appearances in the AFC Champions League Elite and played a key role in Melbourne City FC\u2019s victory in the 2024\u201325 Grand Final.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In his debut season with Melbourne City FC, Trewin earned both the Scott Jamieson Medal, awarded to the Club\u2019s Player of the Year, and the Players\u2019 Player Award, voted on by his\u00a0peers. The Defender\u2019s performances were further recognized with\u00a0the\u00a0Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) Team of the Season\u00a0accolade.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trewin\u00a0represented\u00a0the Australian National Team at the U20 and U23 levels before earning his first senior call-up\u00a0last\u00a0March for FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers. The Defender made his senior international debut in November 2025, starting in international friendlies against Venezuela and Colombia, lining up alongside current New York City FC Midfielder Aiden O\u2019Neill in both matches.\u00a0<\/p>\n
