{"id":115167,"date":"2026-01-28T15:56:23","date_gmt":"2026-01-28T15:56:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/115167\/"},"modified":"2026-01-28T15:56:23","modified_gmt":"2026-01-28T15:56:23","slug":"womens-basketball-travels-to-west-georgia-queens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/115167\/","title":{"rendered":"Women\u2019s Basketball Travels to West Georgia, Queens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n                    &#13;<br \/>\n                        Story Links&#13;<br \/>\n                        &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>                     CARROLLTON, Ga.\u00a0\u2013 The Atlantic Sun Conference leading\u00a0Eastern Kentucky University women&#8217;s basketball\u00a0team hits the road this week for a pivotal two-game swing, traveling south to face West Georgia and Queens.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nEKU will square off with second-place\u00a0West Georgia on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET in the ASUN Conference Game of the Week before continuing to Charlotte, North Carolina, to face\u00a0Queens on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nBoth contests will be streamed live on ESPN+ and heard for free on Colonel All-Access and @EKUWBB on X, with EKU Sports Network&#8217;s Wes Chandler courtside on the call.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nEKU (17-4, 8-0 ASUN) enters the week off to the best start to conference play in program history after home victories over Jacksonville (82-63) and North Florida (88-54) last week.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe Colonels carry multiple streaks into the trip, including a 10-game overall winning streak dating back to Dec. 19, 2025, a 10-game home winning streak in true home games at Baptist Health Arena, and a four-game road winning streak.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nWith wins over West Georgia and Queens, EKU would extend its current run to 12 games, tying for the second-longest winning streak in program history and moving within three games of the school record.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nFreshman guard <a href=\"https:\/\/ekusports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/kenleigh-woods\/11622\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11622\" target=\"_blank\">Kenleigh Woods<\/a> enters week five of conference play after sweeping the ASUN weekly awards, earning Player of the Week, Newcomer of the Week, and Freshman of the Week honors. Woods averaged 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists while shooting 62.5 percent (15-of-24) from the floor in wins over Jacksonville and North Florida.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nWoods is the only ASUN player this season to claim all three weekly honors in the same week and the first league player to do so since EKU sophomore <a href=\"https:\/\/ekusports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/liz-freihofer\/11618\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11618\" target=\"_blank\">Liz Freihofer<\/a> accomplished the feat last season.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nFreihofer continues her strong campaign, averaging 13.6 points per game with a team-high 49 made 3-pointers while scoring in double figures in 19 of EKU&#8217;s 21 games.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe Colonels remain fully healthy and continue to receive consistent production from seniors <a href=\"https:\/\/ekusports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/joseana-vaz\/11712\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11712\" target=\"_blank\">Joseana Vaz<\/a> (12.6 ppg, 7.1 rpg), <a href=\"https:\/\/ekusports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/althea-kara-angeles\/11617\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11617\" target=\"_blank\">Althea Kara Angeles<\/a> (9.5 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 4.1 apg), and <a href=\"https:\/\/ekusports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/ndidiamaka-ndukwe\/11623\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11623\" target=\"_blank\">Ndidiamaka Ndukwe<\/a> (11.9 ppg), who has scored in double figures in 10 consecutive games with three 20-point performances during that stretch.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nOn the national stage, EKU recently climbed to a program-best No. 108 in the NCAA NET rankings and enters the week receiving 16 votes in the CollegeInsider.com Women&#8217;s Mid-Major Top 25 poll, marking the team&#8217;s 16th appearance of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ekusports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/coaches\/greg-todd\/1770\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"1770\" target=\"_blank\">Greg Todd<\/a> era.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nStatistically, the Colonels rank among the nation&#8217;s best, sitting inside the NCAA top 100 in 19 of 26 tracked categories, including 3-point percentage defense (4th, 24.2), defensive rebounds per game (15th, 29.5), 3-pointers made per game (28th, 8.6), assist-to-turnover ratio (34th, 1.18), scoring offense (41st, 76.5), and scoring margin (42nd, +16.5).<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nScouting West Georgia<br \/>\nWest Georgia (13-6, 6-2 ASUN) enters the week second in the league standings and undefeated at home this season with an 11-0 record. Despite only scoring three points in a 69-53 loss to EKU on New Year&#8217;s Day in Richmond, the Wolves are led by senior forward Jasmine Jones, who averages 15.2 points per game.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nScouting Queens<br \/>\nQueens (7-12, 1-7 ASUN) hosts Bellarmine on Thursday, a game between the last two teams in the ASUN standings, before welcoming EKU on Saturday.
