January 24, 2026 Courtesy: Queens Athletics<\/p>\n CHARLOTTE, N.C. \u2013\u00a0The Queens University of Charlotte swimming programs celebrated Senior Day in dominant fashion on Friday afternoon, sweeping Gardner-Webb on both sides as the women earned a 182.5\u201370.5 victory and the men secured a 199\u201361 win inside the Levine Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n Prior to competition, Queens honored its senior class of\u00a0Callen Bartone<\/a>,\u00a0Eli Brinkman<\/a>,\u00a0AJ Fair<\/a>,\u00a0Caden Fritz<\/a>,\u00a0Jonathan Henschel<\/a>,\u00a0Matt Labianco<\/a>,\u00a0Daniel Meszaros<\/a>,\u00a0Matt Shanahan<\/a>,\u00a0Levani Tutovani<\/a>,\u00a0Keegan McKenney<\/a>,\u00a0Juan Gonzalez<\/a>,\u00a0Matthew Duren<\/a>,\u00a0Bethany Glen<\/a>,\u00a0Annika Huber<\/a>,\u00a0Ayvah Johnson<\/a>,\u00a0Sabina Kupcova<\/a>,\u00a0Daryna Maznytska<\/a>, and\u00a0Cornelia Almqvist<\/a>, recognizing their contributions to the program.<\/p>\n The meet opened with the 200-yard medley relays, where both Royals squads set the tone early. The women\u2019s A relay of\u00a0Abigail Zboran<\/a>,\u00a0Annika Huber<\/a>,\u00a0Maddie Foster<\/a>, and\u00a0Maren Patterson<\/a>\u00a0captured first place with a time of 1:40.04. The men followed with an event win as the A relay of\u00a0Pablo Ortega Navarro<\/a>,\u00a0Callen Bartone<\/a>,\u00a0Emil Harlem<\/a>, and\u00a0Nien Levy<\/a>\u00a0touched in 1:25.66.<\/p>\n Queens showcased its strength in the distance freestyle events.\u00a0Sarah Leonie Tenzer<\/a>\u00a0claimed the women\u2019s 1650-yard freestyle title with a time of 16:56.58, while\u00a0Ellie Porter<\/a>\u00a0added a third-place finish (18:20.30). On the men\u2019s side,\u00a0Akos Horvath<\/a>\u00a0finished second in the 1650-yard freestyle (15:43.01).<\/p>\n Sprint freestyle races continued the momentum. In the women\u2019s 200-yard freestyle,\u00a0Abigail Zboran<\/a>\u00a0secured the victory in 1:51.97. The men swept the podium in the 200-yard freestyle as\u00a0Daniel Meszaros<\/a>\u00a0won the event (1:37.84),\u00a0TJ Spokas<\/a>\u00a0finished second (1:38.92), and\u00a0Lance Young<\/a>\u00a0placed third (1:40.27).<\/p>\n Backstroke events featured multiple Royals atop the leaderboard.\u00a0Haley Ross<\/a>\u00a0earned the women\u2019s 100-yard backstroke victory (55.58), followed by\u00a0Bianca Wettel<\/a>\u00a0in second (57.32). The men claimed multiple podium finishes in the 100-yard backstroke as\u00a0Caden Fritz<\/a>\u00a0won the race in 48.04 and\u00a0Pablo Ortega Navarro<\/a>\u00a0placed second (48.39).<\/p>\n Breaststroke races produced more senior-day highlights.\u00a0Annika Huber<\/a>\u00a0captured first place in the women\u2019s 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.12, while\u00a0Libby Livesay<\/a>\u00a0finished second (1:03.43). In the men\u2019s 100-yard breaststroke,\u00a0Matheus Przewalla<\/a>\u00a0earned the win (54.25), followed closely by senior\u00a0Callen Bartone<\/a>\u00a0in second (54.31).<\/p>\n Butterfly events saw strong finishes from the Royals.\u00a0Abigail Zboran<\/a>\u00a0won the women\u2019s 200-yard butterfly (2:04.74), while\u00a0Annie Choate<\/a>\u00a0added a third-place finish (2:10.98). On the men\u2019s side,\u00a0Nikola Karaivanov<\/a>\u00a0claimed first place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:48.07.<\/p>\n The individual portion of the meet closed with standout IM swims.\u00a0Sabina Kupcova<\/a>\u00a0earned the victory in the women\u2019s 200-yard IM (2:02.06). The men were led by\u00a0Matheus Przewalla<\/a>, who captured first place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:48.64.<\/p>\n Queens capped Senior Day with relay victories to close the meet. The women\u2019s 200-yard freestyle relay of\u00a0Maren Patterson<\/a>,\u00a0Abigail Zboran<\/a>,\u00a0Sophia Pfannstiel<\/a>, and\u00a0Libby Livesay<\/a>\u00a0earned first place in 1:33.48. Weber won the men\u2019s 1650 yard freestyle by four seconds, posting a time of 15:39.84. Teammate freshman\u00a0Victor Cury<\/a> was third in the event in 15:50.17.<\/p>\n Sophomore\u00a0Jillian Hawkins<\/a> posted a fourth-place run in the women\u2019s 200-yard freestyle. Hawkins finished with a solid time of 1:56.75 to finish as the highest GWU finisher. Senior Sara-Michael Jann<\/a>\u00a0was fifth in 1:59.03 while freshman\u00a0Madison Richardson<\/a> was sixth in 1:59.09.<\/p>\n In the men\u2019s 200-yard freestyle, sophomore Manuel Brandner<\/a> placed sixth for the Runnin\u2019 Bulldogs, finishing with a time of 1:41.61.<\/p>\n The women\u2019s 100-yard backstroke was one of the best events of the day for Gardner-Webb. Senior Hannah Routh<\/a>\u00a0was on the podium in 57.40 seconds, finishing third. Meanwhile, sophomore\u00a0Kaitlyn Estes<\/a> was fifth in 57.77 seconds, and junior Bella Palazzo was eighth in 59.04 seconds.<\/p>\n Gardner-Webb finished as high as fourth place in both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 200 yard medley relays. On the men\u2019s side, junior\u00a0Carter Redelman<\/a>, senior\u00a0Justin Bender<\/a>, junior\u00a0Jacob Jensen<\/a>\u00a0and sophomore\u00a0Luke Wesson<\/a>\u00a0finished in 1:29.59. On the women\u2019s side, junior\u00a0Slawka Ndubuisi<\/a>, freshman\u00a0Jenna Valentine<\/a>, sophomore\u00a0Dakota Townley<\/a> and Richardson posted a time of 1:46.38.<\/p>\n UP NEXT
