Calderon, who police say is homeless, is facing a slew of charges, including murder, manslaughter, assault, burglary and petit larceny.<\/p>\n<p>According to police sources, Calderon dismantled a stove in an apartment, causing a gas leak that led to an explosion.<\/p>\n<p>A motive is unclear at this time.<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/eastchester-bx-building-wcbsglev-hi-res-still.jpg#.jpeg\" alt=\"Flames pour out the windows of an apartment building in the Bronx \" height=\"349\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                  A man is facing murder charges in connection to a deadly fire in the Bronx that happened on Jan. 24, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>                CBS News New York<\/p>\n<p>  1 dead, 1 critically injured in Bronx fire<\/p>\n<p>First responders were sent to the building on Bivona Street near Reeds Mill Lane just after 12:30 a.m. Saturday on a report of a fire.<\/p>\n<p>When firefighters arrived, officials say they found Ronald McCallister, 60, and a 37-year-old man unconscious and unresponsive.<\/p>\n<p>McCallister was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.<\/p>\n<p>Five other people were taken to a local hospital in stable condition to be treated for injuries.<\/p>\n<p>All of the building&#8217;s residents were displaced by the fire.<\/p>\n<p>Stay with CBS News New York for the latest on this developing story.<\/p>\n<p class=\"content__tags__label\">In:<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A man is facing murder charges in connection to a deadly fire in the Bronx.
