{"id":115978,"date":"2026-01-29T03:47:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T03:47:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/115978\/"},"modified":"2026-01-29T03:47:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T03:47:07","slug":"driver-rams-vehicle-into-brooklyns-chabad-lubavitch-headquarters-motive-under-investigation-amnewyork","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/115978\/","title":{"rendered":"Driver rams vehicle into Brooklyn\u2019s Chabad Lubavitch headquarters; motive under investigation \u2013 amNewYork"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<img width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Photo-Jan-28-2026-10-00-52-PM.jpg\" class=\"crop-center wp-post-image\" alt=\"Scene in Brooklyn where driver rammed vehicle into Chabad Lubavitch headquarters\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"   title=\"Driver rams vehicle into Brooklyn's Chabad Lubavitch headquarters; motive under investigation 1\"\/>\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>A vehicle repeatedly rammed into the Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters in Brooklyn on Wednesday night, causing the Jewish staple to be evacuated.<\/p>\n<p>Photo by Lloyd Mitchell<\/p>\n<p>A driver repeatedly rammed their vehicle into the Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters in <a href=\"http:\/\/amny.com\/brooklyn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Brooklyn<\/a> on Wednesday night, causing the Jewish house of worship to be evacuated.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the Jewish community watched in horror in Crown Heights at 8:46 p.m. on Jan. 28 as the operator of a vehicle with New Jersey license plates repeatedly rammed into the doorway of 770 Eastern Pkwy. in Crown Heights.<\/p>\n<p>As shown in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reels\/DUE9V9cDJBh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">video<\/a> circulated on social media, the driver reversed and then accelerated the car forward repeatedly, sending the wooden front doors imploding inward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCall the police,\u201d one person could be heard screaming in an online video.\n<\/p>\n<p>After several minutes, the driver emerged from the vehicle and told a responding officer, \u201cit slipped,\u201d referring to his vehicle. He was then immediately taken into custody.\n<\/p>\n<p>According to police sources, the <a href=\"http:\/\/nyc.gov\/nypd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">NYPD Emergency Service Unit<\/a> responded to the scene, evacuated the building, and swept the vehicle for weapons. The NYPD Bomb Squad was also called in as a precaution. The results of that search are not yet known.<\/p>\n<p>Police have set up a perimeter around the Chabad Lubavitch headquarters and asked the public to maintain a distance as they conduct an investigation.\n<\/p>\n<p>The headquarters serves as the central hub of the worldwide Chabad Lubavitch Hasidic movement \u2014 housing its synagogue, offices, and study halls.
