BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) \u2014 A driver rammed their car into the Brooklyn Chabad-Lubavitch World Headquarters, according to police.<\/p>\n
Officers received a call for a vehicle collision at 770 Eastern Pkwy. in Crown Heights at 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
More Local News <\/a><\/p>\n According to police, someone drove their car over the sidewalk and into the building.<\/p>\n A video posted to social media<\/a> showed a dark colored Honda Accord repeatedly bashing into the doorway of the Chabad building.<\/p>\n A longer version of the video posted to social media<\/a> shows the driver getting out of the car and confronting bystanders. NYPD officers were shown detaining the driver.<\/p>\n Police confirmed with PIX11 News that the driver of the vehicle was taken into custody.<\/p>\n Rabbi Yaacov Berhman, who handles public relations for Chabad-Lubavitch HQ, said the synagogue was evacuated out of precaution.<\/p>\n The Anti-Defamation League of New York and New Jersey posted a statement on social media following the crash, saying, in part, \u201cThis building is not only a synagogue, but also\u00a0the worldwide @Chabad<\/a> Headquarters and a beloved symbol of Judaism around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n A spokesperson for Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he arrived at the scene before 11 p.m. on Wednesday.<\/p>\n In a statement posted to social media<\/a>, Mamdani said he was \u201crelieved no one was injured in this horrifying incident.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThis is deeply alarming, especially given the deep meaning and history of the institution to so many in New York and around the world. Any threat to a Jewish institution or place of worship must be taken seriously.
