{"id":116188,"date":"2026-01-29T10:58:19","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T10:58:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/116188\/"},"modified":"2026-01-29T10:58:19","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T10:58:19","slug":"staten-island-railway-hole-in-platform-prompts-mta-response","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/116188\/","title":{"rendered":"Staten Island Railway: Hole in platform prompts MTA response"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6Q4JU2EAHZHLNFJUCGPCQKH4H4\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Part of a Staten Island Railway station is crumbling, and one borough resident is worried that more problems will follow. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"JV4AZEGYFZGJ3AT75GIVZVP34U\">Recently, a tipster contacted the Advance\/SILive.com to warn that a hole had appeared in the concrete platform at the Staten Island Railway Station in Oakwood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ENPRZVZWY5HADLFXLC2TIGZHIQ\">Alex, a commuter on Staten Island who asked to only go by their first name, said they first saw the hole in the St. George-bound platform edge at the Oakwood Heights station on Jan. 22.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"YEFXPRJRHFE4HNNTSKWISPCCXY\">The tipster said they were unsure if the concrete had collapsed, but added that MTA employees were working near the gap in the platform, and St. George-bound trains were skipping the station.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"N7VAWZG2HZAGDK2TBFRJJAR75A\">\u201cI saw numerous MTA crews surrounding what seemed like a hole or part of the platform edge that collapsed at Oakwood Heights Station,\u201d Alex said, describing the situation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"TEPDSGNMDFGSLHD57FTGKRM6BY\">A photo shows the crumbled platform edge and additional bits of concrete that were removed near the Guyon Avenue entrance of the station. (Courtesy of Alex)<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"MWDSMGJHDNAEJN6RTJJD6D6N7A\">During a visit to the station earlier this week, a reporter noted the damaged section was still blocked off and covered in snow. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"UTXJDSUOOJAPVLDD5Y4XDFD67Y\">The Guyon Avenue entrance to the St. George-bound platform was closed off and passengers were being directed to enter at the South Railroad Avenue stairs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"DZRHHYKGBVDQRGYF7LFMQ6JDLQ\">Plywood barricades were in place to prevent any passengers from getting close to the area.
