New Yorkers filled Times Square Saturday, joining thousands of \u201cNo King\u201ds rallies occurring across the country to protest President Donald Trump\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo Kings\u201d organizers say more than 2,600 rallies were expected to take place during the national day of action. Many protesters were there to show their opposition to President Donald Trump\u2019s immigration crackdown, which has resulted in raids in cities around the country by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ronnie Lichtman, a 75-year-old midwife and professor at SUNY Downstate Medical Center from Mount Vernon, said that in her long history as an activist, she\u2019s never been so worried about authoritarian rule.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cICE is scary. They kidnap people, they disappear,\u201d she said. \u201cThis is what happens in dictatorships, not the United States of America. Where\u2019s habeas corpus? Where\u2019s due process?\u201d<\/p>\n

Paul Corell, 73, from Kensington, Brooklyn, and a member of the American Civil Liberties Union, said he hit the streets with his \u201cHands Off Venezuela & Free Free Palestine\u201d sign on behalf of Americans, citizens in authoritarian countries, and those living in countries under American foreign policy.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI might even add the ones who support Trump, their rights are being curtailed too, whether they realize it or not,\u201d Corell said.<\/p>\n

Sakura Abdel-Rahman, a 23-year-old art assistant from Scarsdale, said that though she feels like she\u2019s \u201cjust started life\u201d since graduating from college, the future under Trump looks bleak.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t expect it to be this overwhelming, this f\u2013king expensive,\u201d she said. \u201cI had to deactivate all my socials because s\u2013t was too much to comprehend. I\u2019m going to scream on the streets about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The New York City Police Department posted on X<\/a> that more than 100,000 protestors participated in rallies across the five boroughs. As demonstrators lined up in the streets of Times Square, organizers urged participants to scan QR codes to take action to \u201cprotect their neighbors from ICE raids.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt doesn\u2019t end here. Don\u2019t let it stop today,\u201d an organizer shouted through a megaphone from a ledge.<\/p>\n

Though organizers of the \u201cNo Kings\u201d rally did not have specific demands for the Trump administration, participants touted signs sharing their own imperatives, ranging from \u201cRelease the Epstein Files\u201d to \u201cHands Off Gaza.\u201d Corell said he hoped \u201cNo Kings\u201d would serve as a springboard for participants\u2019 civic engagement.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Corell\u2019s own work continues as a group-organizer with P.S. 139 Families for Palestine, an independent committee of parents, caregivers, and children from a Brooklyn school that raises awareness and money for children in Gaza.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do that every weekend, every Sunday.
