When Jamaican-born businessman Jermaine Parker opened Blakk Hyenaz Music Production, a state-of-the-art recording studio on White Plains Road in the Bronx, he realized a long-standing vision to create a professional, culturally rooted music hub, according to Jamaican-born entertainment publicist Anthony \u201cER Guru\u201d Turner.<\/p>\n

\u201cKnown in the borough as the owner of the only Jamaican-owned Clarks shoe store in the state, Parker has now added another chapter to his story \u2013 music,\u201d Turner told Caribbean Life on Wednesday, Jan. 28.
Parker chose to settle near 225th St. and White Plains Road, Turner explained, highlighting the area\u2019s rich Caribbean culture.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust up the block was the legendary Moody\u2019s Records store, a hub for reggae and dancehall lovers,\u201d Turner said.
\u201cThough Kingston Fashion store eventually took center stage, music never left Parker,\u201d he added. \u201cYears later, while running and building his clothing line, Parker spotted an opportunity, literally three stories down from Clarks\u2019 store.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reflecting on his motivation, Parker said, \u201cWell, I always wanted to do music. Music was, I think, my first love.\u201d
\u201cThe music was there first before I became a businessman,\u201d he added, stating that because of Moody\u2019s Records, he met several Jamaican artists.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything came back to me,\u201d Parker continued. \u201cI said, \u2018I have to do this. I have to build this record studio.\u2019\u201d
But Parker wanted to do more than recreate the makeshift studios of his youth.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe record studios that I knew back then were always in basements or bedrooms, or somebody had a laptop, and we\u2019ll make it happen,\u201d Parker said. \u201cBut I always wanted to be something professional.\u201d
Though he never recorded in a professional studio himself, Parker was determined to build one for both the community and the culture.<\/p>\n

Parker said his vision led to the founding of Blakk Hyenaz Music Production \u2014 a space that fuses his fashion brand with his commitment to empowering artists and the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cBlakk Hyenaz is my invention, and it just keeps blessing me,\u201d said Parker, adding that while the studio\u2019s roots are \u201cunmistakably Jamaican, the mission is global.
\u201cOur power is dancehall and reggae, because that\u2019s who we are,\u201d he said. \u201cBut we\u2019re not just doing Jamaican music.\u201d<\/p>\n

Parker describes Blakk Hyenaz Music Production not just as a recording studio, but as a platform designed to launch and elevate new talent within and beyond the local community.
With partners connected to major marketing companies, he said he plans to \u201camplify artists\u201d once the studio gains momentum.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce we start making noise and doing really good stuff, then I have a marketing source that I can use to push this thing very far,\u201d Parker said.<\/p>\n

He said the studio also stands as a tribute to those who laid the groundwork before him, particularly Moody\u2019s Records.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Moody started something with the music, and it was the best thing ever,\u201d Parker said. \u201cRespect to Mr. Moody, because he set the foundation. This is my culture.
