The Colonels’ 12-game winning streak ties the second-longest in program history, while the 10-game conference winning streak also ranks second all-time.

EKU continues to lead the ASUN standings and now holds a 3.5-game lead over the field, standing alone atop the league after being the lone ASUN winner on Friday. The game was moved up from Saturday due to the threat of severe weather in the Charlotte region.

Five Colonels scored in double figures in the victory. Senior guard Althea Kara Angeles led the way with 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting, adding three steals, three assists, and two rebounds.

Senior guard Ndidiamaka Ndukwe followed with 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting, marking her 11th consecutive game in double figures.

Freshman guard Kenleigh Woods and senior forward Joseana Vaz each chipped in 11 points, while sophomore guard Liz Freihofer rounded out the scoring effort with 10 points and a career-high 13 rebounds for her fourth career double-double. Freihofer also knocked down two 3-pointers.

After shooting just 33 percent in the opening quarter, EKU responded by finishing the game 29-for-65 (45 percent) from the floor with eight made 3-pointers. The Colonels forced 19 Queens turnovers and held the Royals to 9-of-27 shooting from beyond the arc.

Queens jumped out to an early lead behind hot perimeter shooting, taking a 12-9 advantage midway through the first quarter and extending it to 23-11 late in the period. Freihofer kept EKU within striking distance with two 3-pointers, including one at the buzzer, but the Royals shot 10-for-16 in the opening quarter to carry a nine-point lead.

EKU’s defense shifted the momentum in the second quarter. Woods jumpstarted the rally at the free-throw line and with a finish through contact, while Ndukwe buried a 3-pointer to spark a go-ahead run. The Colonels surged ahead 27-26 with 3:03 remaining, and late buckets from Ella Bradley and Angeles helped EKU close the half with a four-point lead.

The Colonels continued to apply pressure coming out of the break. Freihofer scored inside early, Angeles attacked the basket for consecutive layups, and Vaz added a finish in the paint as EKU pushed the lead to eight. A Bradley 3-pointer off a Woods assist helped EKU take a 51-42 advantage into the fourth quarter.

EKU put the game away early in the final period. Vaz opened the quarter with a 3-pointer and a transition layup, Ndukwe scored back-to-back baskets in the paint, and Woods and Angeles each connected from deep as the lead ballooned to 22 points. EKU closed out the contest to secure another conference victory winning 74-59.

The Colonels will continue their road swing next Wednesday at Lipscomb in Nashville.
