STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Two destructive three-alarm blazes broke out overnight Friday into Saturday and sent five people to local hospitals.<\/p>\n

The first fire broke out at 250 Elverton Ave., a dead-end street off Leverett Avenue in Great Kills, around 11:23 p.m., according to a spokesperson for the FDNY.<\/p>\n

Flames tore through a 2.5 story private dwelling and strengthened to the point where a second alarm was declared at 11:42 p.m.<\/p>\n

As noted by the spokesperson, at 12:44 a.m. Saturday, the Elverton Avenue fire demanded a third alarm.<\/p>\n

The flames were brought under control by 2:53 a.m.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, one civilian and two firefighters were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the FDNY said.<\/p>\n

The Department of Buildings was requested due to a partial collapse of the structure. However, the FDNY spokesperson explained that none of the injuries were sustained from this collapse.<\/p>\n

Photos from the scene show a massive emergency response. An orange glow can be seen through the smoke billowing from openings in the structure. The exterior visibly suffered severe charring and structural damage.<\/p>\n

The West Brighton fire<\/p>\n

As firefighters battled the Great Kills emergency, another fire broke out at 385 Bard Ave. off Castleton Avenue in West Brighton around 1:14 a.m.<\/p>\n

Firefighters responded to this emergency, which saw flames extend throughout the two-story home and its attic.<\/p>\n

At 1:44 a.m. a second alarm was declared; at 1:55 a.m. that became a third alarm, according to the FDNY spokesperson.<\/p>\n

A total of 63 units consisting of 192 fire and EMS personnel responded to this second emergency, which was brought under control by 3:54 a.m.<\/p>\n

A civilian with a non-life-threatening injury and a firefighter with a minor injury were taken to local hospitals.<\/p>\n

The cause of this fire remains under investigation, the FDNY said.<\/p>\n
