{"id":118724,"date":"2026-01-31T23:47:06","date_gmt":"2026-01-31T23:47:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/118724\/"},"modified":"2026-01-31T23:47:06","modified_gmt":"2026-01-31T23:47:06","slug":"editor-in-chief-of-queens-journal-volume-154-elected","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/118724\/","title":{"rendered":"Editor in Chief of Queen\u2019s Journal Volume 154 elected"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jonathan Reilly was elected Editor in Chief of Volume 154 of The Journal on Jan. 31.<\/p>\n<p>With 36 ballots casted and a voter turnout of 90 per cent, Reilly received 28 votes in favour, earning 80 per cent support in a contested race. Candidates Cloey Aconely and Eva Sheahan earned seven votes or 20 per cent of the turnout, with one abstention.<\/p>\n<p>Reilly, who currently serves as the Senior News Editor, and formerly Assistant News Editor in Vol. 152, said the win feels like the culmination of his entire time at The Journal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an honour to be given this responsibility,\u201d he said in an interview with The Journal.<\/p>\n<p>He said his campaign period may have only lasted a few weeks, but the goal of becoming Editor in Chief stretches back to his earliest days at the paper.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI built a lot of the skills that were able to allow me to run for this role,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Reilly said he\u2019s especially looking forward to hiring next year\u2019s masthead and expanding outreach during the recruitment process.<\/p>\n<p>He also emphasized the significance of The Journal within the Queen\u2019s community. \u201cIt has a super long history and being able to be a part of that is something that feels like bigger than myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Current Editors in Chief Sarah Adams and Meghrig Milkon said they\u2019re confident Reilly will carry that legacy forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so happy for him,\u201d Adams said in an interview with The Journal. \u201cMeg and I\u2019ve gotten to see Jonathan grow and really step into his roles at The Journal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She emphasized that this wasn\u2019t something Reilly wanted when the opportunity presented itself, but \u201cit\u2019s been on his mind since his first day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Milkon said Reilly has long been a reliable presence in the newsroom, especially under pressure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe very much deserves this job. I know he\u2019s going to do very well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both Adams and Milkon said they expect a smooth transition in the months ahead and noted Reilly has already begun preparing for the role.<\/p>\n<p>They also acknowledged the other candidates who ran in the election, calling the campaign a strong and substantive contest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey had a great debate. I think the whole Journal should be proud,\u201d Milkon said.<\/p>\n<p>Reilly echoed that sentiment. \u201cI think Cloey [Aconley] and Eva [Sheehan] were great candidatures, and I\u2019m happy to work with them next year as well.
