The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s basketball team fell 85-82 to the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday (Jan. 31) afternoon at Goldring Centre \u2013 Kimel Family Field House.<\/p>\n

In a back-and-forth barn burner between the two teams, the lead changed 11 times throughout four quarters of play. Toronto’s shooting was on display all afternoon, shooting 46 per cent from the field and 31 per cent from beyond the three-point line. The Blues defence was lights out, holding a 5-1 advantage in blocks and a 7-6 advantage in steals. Both team’s benches were strong with Toronto scoring 44 points and Queen’s putting up 30.<\/p>\n

Leading the way for U of T was second-year guard Nathan Bureau, who sent the Goldring crowd into a frenzy. The Oakville native came off the bench and scored a career-high 25 points, shooting 53 per cent from the field and 50 per cent on three-pointers. Second-year forward Lucas Prekovic dominated the floor with a 11-point 12-rebound double-double while adding four blocks. Fourth-year centre Ryan Rudnick was a presence on the court with 14 points and was perfect on three-pointers. Fourth-year guard Simeon Jeffers was high flying once again with and tied for a team-high five assists while shooting 46 per cent from the field.<\/p>\n

For the Gaels, Ollie Engen’s team-high 21 points were complimented by his game-high seven assists. Inder Brar was second in command with 15 points on 75 per cent three-point shooting. Meanwhile, Jakub Dobiech and Ashton Bain reached the double-digit marker with 13 and 10 points respectively.<\/p>\n

The Blues will travel to Waterloo, Ont., for a game against the Waterloo Warriors on Friday (Feb. 6) night. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on oua.tv<\/a>.<\/p>\n
