CLAREMONT, Bronx (WABC) — At least 30 people are now homeless after a five-story apartment building caught fire in the Claremont section of the Bronx overnight.<\/p>\n

Firefighters raced to the site of a four-alarm fire off the Grand Concourse just after midnight.<\/p>\n

FDNY crews extended several ladders from engine trucks as they battled the blaze from above.<\/p>\n

Three frozen hydrants hindered their progress as they worked to get the fire under control.<\/p>\n

The fire burned through the the top floor and cockloft of the apartment building, leaving visible damage and multiple blown-out windows.<\/p>\n

Firefighters pulled two people, an 88-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman, to safety. The two residents are in stable condition.<\/p>\n

The Red Cross is now working to help displaced residents, and the FDNY has requested an MTA bus to shelter them temporarily.<\/p>\n

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.<\/p>\n
