Police are investigating after the remains of an adult woman were found Sunday morning in the basement of a Brooklyn public housing building, authorities said.<\/p>\n
The NYPD said officers responding to a 911 call about an unconscious person around 9:30 a.m. instead discovered human remains inside a residential building on Bushwick Avenue that is part of Borinquen Plaza, a New York City Housing Authority complex. Police have not said how long the woman had been dead.<\/p>\n

Vincent Valcassel, who lives in the Williamsburg area, said he learned about the discovery while getting breakfast nearby.<\/p>\n
\u201cI heard people screaming, and they said it was a body chopped up in the incinerator in plastic bags,\u201d Valcassel said.<\/p>\n
NY1 reached out to NYCHA for comment, but a spokesperson referred questions to police.<\/p>\n
Trayvon Brown, who lives in the building, said he told investigators about noises he heard the night before the remains were found.<\/p>\n
\u201cI heard banging last night in the hallway,\u201d Brown said. \u201cThere was a phone left also in the hallway by the incinerator that I found at 8 a.m. I left the cellphone in the hallway. I went back into my home for roughly half an hour and then came back at 10, and the police were out there.\u201d<\/p>\n
Residents and relatives of people who live in the building said the discovery has left them shaken and fearful.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverybody is skeptical, they\u2019re paranoid, they\u2019re scared,\u201d said one person who declined to give a name. \u201cMy mother is in fear because she don\u2019t know. The murderer could be our neighbor, could live in the building. We have no idea.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another person said the violence was difficult to comprehend.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re losing too many people over craziness, and it\u2019s got to stop,\u201d the person said. \u201cIt\u2019s just unbearable, bro. I don\u2019t wish that on nobody. It\u2019s a horrible thing to be going through. Who could do that to a woman?\u201d<\/p>\n
