A new report<\/a> took a look at how sports fandom affects dating and relationships across the country, and New York made the list.<\/p>\n

New York Ranks Among the Tougher States to Date a Sports Fan<\/p>\n

According to a new survey from Hard Rock Bet<\/a>, New York ranks 13th on the list of the worst states to date a sports fan. The survey included 2,000 sports fans nationwide and asked how sports impact their dating habits.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what stood out about New York sports fans:<\/p>\n

\u2022 35 percent say dating a rival fan could be a deal breaker
\u2022 33 percent would watch sports at a party
\u2022 22 percent would wake up in the middle of the night to watch a game
\u2022 14 percent admit they would watch sports during a date<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve ever tried to plan a romantic night during football season, this is not a surprise.<\/p>\n

\"WNBFThe Worst States Overall for Dating a Sports Fan<\/p>\n

New York landed in the middle of the pack, but some states were much tougher. Idaho ranked as the worst state to date a sports fan. Half of the fans there said dating a rival is a deal breaker, and many admitted they would watch sports during dates, parties, and even weddings. Washington and California followed behind, with fans saying they would put games over social time and relationships.<\/p>\n

Not All States Put Sports First<\/p>\n

There is good news if you\u2019re not a die hard sports fan. Some states showed a better balance between sports and relationships. Wisconsin ranked as the best state to date a sports fan. Very few people there said they would watch sports on a date. Louisiana and Tennessee also ranked high, with most fans saying relationships come first.<\/p>\n

What This Means If You\u2019re Dating in New York<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re dating a sports fan in New York, knowing how important game days are can save you frustration later. Some couples plan around big games and agree that certain nights are a no-go. With Valentine\u2019s Day and the Super Bowl close together, New Yorkers may have to make a choice. At least they aren’t falling on the same weekend.<\/p>\n
