This Windsor Terrace row house is an easy stroll from Prospect Park. The single-family, four-bedroom home at 209 Windsor Place also boasts early 20th century style, with wood floors, picture rails, and stained glass. It offers the potential for a new owner to make their own style statement by renovating the basement.<\/p>\n

The home is part of a block-long row of two-story brick houses developed by William M. Calder. A U.S. senator and prolific builder, Calder put up so many homes in Windsor Terrace that the neighborhood, a \u201chappy, thriving community of homeowners,\u201d according to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle<\/a> in 1912, was known as Calderville. He filed plans<\/a> for this single-family row house designed by Eisenla and Carlson<\/a> in 1914. The houses were advertised in 1915<\/a> as \u201cartistically decorated\u201d with hardwood trim, parquet floors, gas ranges, built-in ice boxes, and laundry in the basement. As pictured in the ads, they included ornamental parapets and open front porches.<\/p>\n

The circa 1940 tax photos show many porches in the row were enclosed by the late 1930s, including at No. 209<\/a>. It remains enclosed, adding some extra living space on the main floor.<\/p>\n

That main floor includes front and middle parlors, a dining room, and eat-in kitchen. Tucked into a corner of the kitchen is a toilet room, sans sink. Upstairs are four bedrooms and one full bath. The basement, which is not shown in the listing photos, is described as having \u201cuntapped potential\u201d that could become a rec room or office.<\/p>\n

The enclosed porch has a tile floor, but wood floors stretch through the front and middle parlors and the dining room. Walls and trim are white and include picture rails. The middle parlor includes the original stair, built-in storage, and pocket doors to the dining room.<\/p>\n

In the kitchen there are windows on two exposures and room for a small table and chairs. There are green counters and white cabinets and appliances, including a dishwasher. There are steps up to a door providing access to a rear deck.<\/p>\n

Upstairs there are two larger bedrooms and two narrow bedrooms; all have closets. An alternative floor plan suggests removing closet space to add an extra full bath. As is there is one full bath with a stained glass skylight and retro pink style. There are pink floor tiles, wall tiles, and a pink console sink. The space has a shower, but no tub.<\/p>\n

The property hasn\u2019t changed hands in decades, so updates might be needed. The listing doesn\u2019t mention recent mechanical upgrades or other renovations to the property.<\/p>\n
