A brazen carjacker was arrested more than two weeks after he allegedly took an elderly blind man for an unwanted joyride<\/a> through Long Island City\u00a0when he swiped a parked vehicle with the senior sitting in the backseat.<\/p>\n

Dominic Kanin, 30, insisted to The Post on Monday that he was no \u201cthug\u201d despite the slew of charges he is staring down in the case. <\/p>\n

He was cuffed and charged with grand larceny, kidnapping, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and unlawful imprisonment the same day in connection with the Jan. 17 carjacking of a Subaru outside\u00a0a Target near the intersection of 44 Drive and 23 Street in Queens, according to the NYPD.<\/p>\n

Kanin allegedly hopped inside the idling car as the 72-year-old blind man with dementia waited inside for his 34-year-old son to return from Target \u2014 later dumping the car and its geriatric passenger three miles away in Maspeth.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe defendant is alleged to have entered a running vehicle after the driver had left the vehicle to enter a Target,\u201d Assistant District Attorney Jonathan Brewer told the courtroom at Kanin\u2019s arraignment at Queens Criminal Court on Monday night. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe got into the driver\u2019s seat of the vehicle and drove away while the owner\u2019s father was described as blind and having dementia, was seated in the backseat of the vehicle, effectively stealing the car with a passenger inside,\u201d Brewer added. <\/p>\n

The elderly passenger was unharmed but \u201cdidn\u2019t know what was happening\u201d throughout the entirety of the alarming ride, the victim\u2019s wife previously told The Post.<\/p>\n

Kanin was charged with grand larceny, kidnapping, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and unlawful imprisonment. NYPD<\/p>\n

Kanin allegedly dumped the car and its geriatric passenger three miles away from the Queens target in Maspeth. Peter Gerber<\/p>\n

Since the charges against him were not bail eligible, Kanin was sprung on supervised release, Judge Srividya Pappachan ordered. <\/p>\n

As he was exiting the courtroom, Kanin decried that he is \u201cactually a good person\u201d and has a \u201ccondition,\u201d without elaborating on what the supposed condition is.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not what it looks like, to be honest. I\u2019m actually a good person\u2026this story has made the media, right?\u201d Kanin said. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe thing is, yeah, I have um, I have a condition. I have a condition. It\u2019s not like I\u2019m a thug or what. It\u2019s not that at all. That\u2019s all I\u2019m gonna say,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

An order of protection was also granted for the vehicle\u2019s owner and his father. <\/p>\n
