Astoria residents will brave below-freezing temperatures to vote in a special election to replace Zohran Mamdani as their voice in the New York State Assembly\u2014one of three special elections<\/a> happening across New York City today.<\/p>\n

Fighting for votes in Mamdani’s old 36th State Assembly district are Diana Moreno<\/a>, Rana Abdelhamid<\/a> and Mary Jobaida<\/a>. The three progressive women each have immigrant backgrounds, a history of organizing, and are all members of the Democratic Socialists of America.<\/p>\n
