In fact, the over-the-top tastemaker wears the cheeky nickname like a badge of honor \u2014 especially when she wears her square-shaped denims.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThese cube jeans are just so fun and unique. They\u2019re literally wearable art,\u201d Vazzana, 33, a Big Apple fashionista, told The Post of her $745 \u201cSquare Voluminous Jeans\u201d<\/a> from Ukrainian designer Ksenia Schnaider.\u00a0<\/p>\n Caroline Vazzana remained unfazed by the shady comparisons made between her and SpongeBob SquarePants while rocking her pair of custom-made \u201cSquare Voluminous Jeans.\u201d Caroline Vazzana<\/p>\n The boxy bottoms \u2014 reminiscent of those donned by cartoon dandy SpongeBob SquarePants \u2014 come as the newest avant-garde garb to cause a coup in the world of couture.\u00a0<\/p>\n Their emergence trails the release of equally outrageous gear, such as Kim Kardashian\u2019s \u201cUltimate Bush\u201d micro string thongs<\/a>, the $5,000 \u201cbizarre\u201d balloon boots<\/a> by Rick Owens, and, of course, the ever-controversial barrel jeans trend<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n While barrel jeans give hips an \u201cunflattering\u201d roundish look, Schnaider\u2019s edgy creations have the power to transform even the most curvaceous figure into a four-sided structure fit for a pizza pie.\u00a0<\/p>\n Virtual fashion critics compared Vazzana to SpongeBob SquarePants as she modeled Schnaider\u2019s look-at-me jeans. \u00a9Paramount\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n Online jokers likened the jeans\u2019 unusual cut to that seen on animated characters like SpongeBob SquarePants and Roblox avatars. Ira Green<\/p>\n Vazzana recently debuted the showstoppers<\/a> to a combined online audience of over 36 million viewers \u2014 and God only knows how many gobsmacked passersby on the streets of SoHo.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The reactions ranged from dazzled to dismayed. <\/p>\n She received commendations from strangers \u2014 shouting \u201cYou look incredible!\u201d \u2014 as she strutted through a crosswalk, as well as criticism from internet trolls who commented, \u201cOh God, WTF?\u201d beneath her videos.\u00a0<\/p>\n Both the cheers and jeers were flattering to the NYC siren, who says her to-the-max slacks are meant to evoke an emotion \u2014 be it positive or negative \u2014 from beholders near and far.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThe purpose of these jeans is to normalize clothes that aren\u2019t normally considered everyday, wearable looks,\u201d Vazzana explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n She styled the odd togs with a vintage 1980s Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche green and blue floral print silk lavalliere blouse<\/a> ($565), a Fendi baguette in metallic sequins<\/a> ($5,900), and green Manolo Blahnik Hangisi pumps<\/a> ($1,450). Vazzana also paired the extra-wide-leg pants with a pair of leggings, which helped keep her legs warm in the frigid cold.\u00a0<\/p>\n The brunette told The Post she stopped foot traffic while modeling the jeans around SoHo, receiving high praise from folks who were drawn to her bold swag. Caroline Vazzana<\/p>\n \u201cI wanted to wear these chic, wearable pieces with these big box jeans to create this jarring juxtaposition,\u201d said the voguish visionary.\u00a0<\/p>\n She admitted, however, that added dimensions to her frame made it slightly difficult to walk and to fit through the doorway of her favorite downtown caf\u00e9.\u00a0<\/p>\n But sitting to enjoy a cup of coffee or to get into the back seat of an Uber was a piece of cake for the stylish trailblazer, who shrugs off the ragging from her haters.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cFashion is supposed to be wacky,\u201d Vazzana laughed. \u201cIt\u2019s a fun form of self-expression.<\/p>\n \u201cYou can think outside of the box or, literally, inside of the box.\u201d<\/p>\n Schnaider says she hoped to bring the fashion of the digital world into the real world by creating a line inspired by the clothes worn by popular gaming avatars. How can we fit a curved body into a boxy silhouette? The question was a design challenge for my team,\u201d Schnaider, 42, exclusively told The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cWe weren\u2019t thinking people would actually wear them,\u201d she chuckled. \u201cWe were so surprised that some people find the jeans interesting and playful.\u201d<\/p>\n Playfulness inspired the peculiar pants \u2014 that, and Schnaider\u2019s desire to strike a chord with her 14-year-old daughter, Zoia, an avid virtual world-gamer.\u00a0<\/p>\n Schnaider says she and her husband were inspired to design jeans reminiscent of those worn by digitized characters in popular video games such as Roblox and Minecraft. Rokas \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n \u201cThe initial idea was to use Roblox, digital avatars, which are boxy, and recreate that look in the real world,\u201d said the couturier for nearly two decades. \u201cMy daughter likes Roblox and Minecraft. So she was so happy to see my cube jeans.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was like the first time she was actually impressed by what her mom does [for work].\u201d<\/p>\n And transforming the digitally-inspired duds into functional women\u2019s fashion is an impressive feat for Schnaider and her team.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cEach pair of jeans are made-to-order. We need the exact hip and waist measurements of each customer in order to create an inner belt that will fit their bodies,\u201d said the innovator.\u00a0<\/p>\n The belt, made of thick black leather, gets threaded through a series of interior belt loops, which keeps the pants snug around the person\u2019s midsection.\u00a0<\/p>\n Schnaider fashioned her unconventional jeans with an interior belt meant to hold the square-shaped bottoms in place. Ksenia Schnaider<\/p>\n \u201cTo create the boxy silhouette, each pair of jeans comes with four flat, plastic rectangular sticks that go inside interior slats along the waistline of the jeans,\u201d Schnaider continued. \u201cThe sticks are easily insertable and removable, so you can wash the jeans.\u201d<\/p>\n But the blocky britches, made of 100% cotton, aren\u2019t all the trendsetter has up her sleeve.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cWe also offer a square hat, a square jacket, square tops, shorts and shoes,\u201d said Schnaider, who premiered her oblong finery during last year\u2019s Ukrainian Fashion Week. \u201cIt was during wartime. It was weird to show something so fun and playful in total darkness. But it was our way of escaping reality.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Schnaider says making and showcasing the edgy looks served as a form of fashionable escapism amid tragedy in Ukraine. Ira Green<\/p>\n A whimsical respite from the heaviness of life is the gift Schnaider wants to give the world.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cFashion is all about playing with proportions, making the human body bigger or smaller, and helping people feel comfortable in their own skin in different ways,\u201d she said. \u201cSeeing people buying and wearing my work makes me very happy and proud.\u201d<\/p>\n And Vazzana says she\u2019s proud to bring that splash of posh positivity to her fellow New Yorkers.\u00a0<\/p>\n The style influencer styled the pants with chic pieces from other top-notch labels in an effort to make the look fun and fashionable.
