According to the Vatican, Hicks, 57, brings a wide mix of pastoral, academic and leadership experience to New York.<\/p>\n

The installation ceremony combines Catholic tradition, liturgy, and church administration.\u00a0<\/p>\n

During the Mass, the Pope\u2019s official letter appointing Hicks as archbishop will be read aloud by the apostolic nuncio, the Pope\u2019s ambassador to the United States.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Events begin the evening before, on Thursday, at 5 p.m., when Hicks will lead Evening Prayer (Vespers) at Saint Patrick\u2019s Cathedral.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This service is a prayerful preparation and does not include the formal transfer of authority.<\/p>\n
