{"id":121841,"date":"2026-02-03T21:21:26","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T21:21:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/121841\/"},"modified":"2026-02-03T21:21:26","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T21:21:26","slug":"staten-island-track-field-islander-sparks-national-record-relay-sws-herbert-and-ndas-nestor-hubert-set-all-time-borough-marks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/121841\/","title":{"rendered":"Staten Island track &#038; field: Islander sparks national record relay, SW\u2019s Herbert and NDA\u2019s Nestor-Hubert set all-time borough marks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"OLFTPFXOWFCFJGZBWIXPIFT52E\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.\u2014 The storied <a href=\"https:\/\/www.millrosegames.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.millrosegames.org\/\">Millrose Games<\/a>\u2014one of the longest-running and most prestigious meets in the country\u2014once again delivered blazing-fast performances across the national track and field circuit, and Staten Island natives Abigail Robisky and Kaeden Herbert rose to the occasion in front of a broadcast TV audience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"DE6AQM7JERGBFHVR5GYQOEYKBQ\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/youthsports\/2025\/08\/local-track-star-wins-two-golds-at-usatf-national-junior-olympics-ready-to-take-on-hs-competition-this-fall.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/youthsports\/2025\/08\/local-track-star-wins-two-golds-at-usatf-national-junior-olympics-ready-to-take-on-hs-competition-this-fall.html\">Robisky<\/a>, a Staten Island native competing for New Jersey powerhouse Union Catholic, played a key role in a monstrous national-record performance in the 4&#215;800 relay with the freshman clocking a 2:11.53 leadoff split as part of the team\u2019s blistering 8:40.07 showing at the Armory. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"MSGJKULL35ETDJ6B2J3KDKNUNE\">The quartet didn\u2019t just break the old national record held by Florida\u2019s IMG Academy (8:46.04), either\u2014they shattered it, slicing nearly six seconds off the previous mark to produce one of the greatest relays in prep history to date.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"WKJOPMNPQFD57PL3G42GFA6BD4\">The historic showing further underscored a dominant stretch for the Union Catholic program that produced Olympian Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, as the school\u2019s boys\u2019 4&#215;800 relay also made history at Millrose by posting the No. 4 all-time mark in high school history with a time of 7:37.96.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"4LF23IRPBFBHTDKVI6CWGYWHGM\">Adding to the excitement, Susan Wagner\u2019s Kaeden Herbert once again etched his name into Island T&amp;F history by setting another borough record, this time in the 60-meter dash with a 6.91 second posting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"Y5ACSYX2CNHIBOVUG7NPYGULLA\">\u201cIt\u2019s always tough to PR in a high pressure situation like Millrose; Kaeden did a great job of maintain composure and running a PR,\u201d Susan Wagner head coach John Padula said when assessing his senior\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6SLM3LTB6RCM5PXXOVG7VTHK6Q\">\u201cIt\u2019s his fourth Island record and our sixth as a team this season; we now have 24 boys\u2019 records and 18 girls\u2019 Island records,\u201d he added. \u201cWe are hoping to build on this success at City Champs, States and Nationals. Kaedan will also be competing for Trinidad at the CARIFTA Games and World Juniors this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"5VYIPIEAIBEZXHQ36547WZYUVM\">The Falcons\u2019 day at Millrose was further highlighted by strong performances from both relay squads, as the boys\u2019 4&#215;400 posted a time of 3:27.52 to place second among PSAL schools, while the girls\u2019 4&#215;400 followed with a 4:06.06 silver-medal public school finish.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"low\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Islander sparks national record relay, SW\u2019s Herbert and NDA\u2019s Nestor-Hubert set all-time borough marks\" class=\"article__image-content\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/2J7JUC7U6VDJHGC5MQJ6PVGQ5I.jpg\"  \/>Empire Elite track member and Staten Islander Will Cuthbertson posted an admirable race at Millrose.Staten Island Running Association<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"SOEBKTLVHNB6PFQGL4V4OF543U\">Additionally, Will Cuthbertson, a Susan Wagner and Wagner College alum who has steadily established himself on the professional circuit in recent years, competed in the pro 600 field at Millrose, finishing sixth in 1:20.55.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"BU3PFYKUNRBSBDBGCG5RDV6WYA\">It may not have been Will the Thrill\u2019s best outing, but it should serve as added motivation as he soon returns to his hometown track, where he is set to compete in the 800 trials at the USATF Championships at Ocean Breeze later this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"DUH3VBCYZRBE5BQ4YSGEK7LNLA\">\u201cI loved competing at Millrose,\u201d said Cuthbertson. \u201cIt\u2019s a meet I\u2019ve grown up watching and competing in with Wagner High School so being able to race there as a professional was a really special, full-circle experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RJBRD55JTBF5PGOUNGDDXFODXQ\">\u201cEven though the race didn\u2019t quite come together for me this time, it was still an awesome opportunity to compete on that stage and be part of such a historic event. I\u2019m grateful for the experience and I\u2019m excited to keep building from there towards USAs,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"TTJEMHO45BEJTHLIVBYBF6FMLM\">Lastly, in the George T. Eastment 4&#215;800 for CHSAA schools, Staten Islander Jayden Falcon closed out Xavier\u2019s gold-medal winning relay (7:53.20) with a swift 1:57.01 anchor leg. Farrell placed fifth in 8:02.12, with St. Joseph by-the-Sea close behind in sixth at 8:03.10.<\/p>\n<p>Ocean Breeze Invitational<img fetchpriority=\"low\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Islander sparks national record relay, SW\u2019s Herbert and NDA\u2019s Nestor-Hubert set all-time borough marks\" class=\"article__image-content\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/CCINCV5PKZEH5BHT5RXG7CN4YQ.JPG\"  \/>Notre Dame Academy&#8217;s Coryn Nestor-Hubert set an Island No. 2 mark in the 200 meters this weekend.Michael O&#8217;Brien<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"XZ32OXNKEJDODE46HUV72EFIM4\">It may not carry the glamour of the Millrose Games, but the Ocean Breeze Invitational still delivered plenty of fast times this past weekend as well, highlighted by Notre Dame Academy\u2019s Coryn Nestor-Hubert, who posted a blazing double effort.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"J7WUY6WFIFF4RKEH5YP23B332A\">Fresh off her No. 3 all-time Island mark in the 300 earlier this January, the versatile sprinter moved up to No. 2 in the borough\u2019s all-time indoor 200 rankings, with her 25.27 finish also earning seventh place at the highly competitive meet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HBAY7FQZ7NA3TMYCNKXJJDSUBQ\">If that wasn\u2019t enough, she doubled back to set the Island\u2019s No. 11 all-time mark in the indoor 400, clocking 58.17 for fourth place, amounting to an outstanding day for the Gators senior.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6XNBASAFZFDYFHP6CWQJSU3AOE\">\u201cIt\u2019s been incredible to see Coryn\u2019s hard work over the past few years really come to life this season. Coming into the year, Coryn shared with me that she wanted to leave her mark as one of Staten Island\u2019s greatest [high school] sprinters,\u201d said NDA head coach James Walker.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"CQE7Z7PDENAWHFPNLOJRIAJPXA\">\u201cIt\u2019s been an absolute pleasure watching Coryn grow.
