STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 A New York City program announced Tuesday offers some New Yorkers free tax-prep services, including at three locations around Staten Island. <\/p>\n
Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced the 2026 iteration of the program at a Manhattan press conference with Department of Consumer and Worker Protection Commissioner Sam Levine. <\/p>\n
\u201cNew Yorkers shouldn\u2019t have to jump through hoops or pay outrageous fees just to file their taxes,\u201d Mamdani said. \u201cThrough NYC Free Tax Prep, our administration is working across agencies to deliver exactly that\u2014helping New Yorkers file for free, receive the tax refunds they\u2019re owed, and avoid hidden fees and tax scams.\u201d<\/p>\n
Families in the five boroughs making $97,000 or less annually, and those who earn $68,000 or less annually and file as an individual or couple without a dependent are eligible for the program. <\/p>\n
According to Mamdani\u2019s office, that means nearly half of New Yorkers are eligible for the program that saved an estimated $346 in tax preparation fees per return and approximately $38.2 million citywide last year. <\/p>\n
Free preparation services are also available for self-employed New Yorkers who have business expenses of $250,000 or less. <\/p>\n
Tax prep services are available at Project Hospitality\u2019s Stapleton and Port Richmond help centers, and at El Centro\u2019s Port Richmond headquarters, 64 Port Richmond Ave.<\/p>\n
The El Centro location is open Tuesday to Friday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.<\/p>\n
Services are available at the Stapleton Help Center, 211 Canal St., Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and at the Port Richmond Help Center, 221 Port Richmond Ave., Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.<\/p>\n
The two Port Richmond locations offer services in English, Russian and Spanish. The Stapleton location offers services in English and Spanish.<\/p>\n
