BROOKLYN, New York (WABC) — Two people have been charged in the fentanyl poisoning of a 4-year-old boy in Brooklyn.<\/p>\n
Federal authorities say in March of 2025, the son of Yitzchok Sklar died from fentanyl exposure<\/a>.<\/p>\n The 4-year-old was in the apartment with his father, and Sklar’s girlfriend Ahuva Katzin, at the time of his exposure to fentanyl.<\/p>\n After 911 was called to report the boy was experiencing a medical emergency, Sklar was caught on surveillance video allegedly showing him leaving the boy in the apartment while running out with a black bag and returning without it.<\/p>\n The bag was found by law enforcement in a nearby car and contained fentanyl and heroin.<\/p>\n Sklar was previously charged along with the boy’s mother, Miriam Elkayam, with abandonment of a child and criminal possession of a controlled substance in state court.<\/p>\n On Tuesday, Sklar and Katzin were both hit with federal charges: conspiracy to distribute narcotics resulting in death.<\/p>\n The charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in prison, and a maximum sentence of life in prison.<\/p>\n ———-<\/p>\n * More Brooklyn news<\/a><\/p>\n * Send us a news tip<\/a><\/p>\n * Download the abc7NY app for breaking news alerts<\/a> <\/p>\n * Follow us on YouTube<\/a> <\/p>\n
