Red Deer Polytechnic teams delivered strong performances across multiple sports this past week, highlighted by a silver-medal finish for the Queens Curling team at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Curling Championships.<\/p>\n
Competing in Lac La Biche from Jan. 30 to Feb. 1, the RDP Queens Curling team advanced to the gold-medal final after edging the Portage College Voyageurs 7-6 and defeating the SAIT Trojans 6-4 in the semifinals. The Queens were narrowly defeated 4-3 by the Concordia University Thunder in the championship final to secure silver. SAIT earned bronze.<\/p>\n
The result qualifies the Queens for the 2026 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Curling Canada College Championships, scheduled for Feb. 17\u201321 in Regina.<\/p>\n
The RDP Kings Curling team placed fourth at the championships. The Kings were edged 5-4 by the SAIT Trojans before falling 6-4 to the Concordia Thunder in the bronze-medal game. The NAIT Ooks captured gold, while SAIT secured silver.<\/p>\n
Individually, Teryn Herder, a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences student, was named to the 2026 ACAC Men\u2019s Curling All-Conference team. Queens skip Kailey Sparks was recognized as the 2026 ACAC Female Curling Rookie of the Year.<\/p>\n
On the ice, the RDP Queens Hockey team earned back-to-back victories over the Olds College Broncos. On Jan. 29 in Olds, the Queens recorded a 1-0 shutout, with Camryn Ward scoring the lone goal and first-year goaltender Juliette Gagne-Delaunay stopping all 11 shots she faced. Two days later at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre, the second-place Queens (16-6) defeated the Broncos 3-1, with goals from Hayley Kolosky, Emily Hourie and Mia McGregor. Goaltender Elizabeth Campbell made 28 saves in the win.<\/p>\n
The RDP Kings Hockey team also posted a pair of wins against the Concordia University Thunder. On Jan. 30, the Kings defeated the Thunder 6-3 at home, with goals from Deegan Mofford, Nolan Doell, Sean Michalevich, Alex Bernauer, Ryland McNinch and Kody Willick. The following night in Edmonton, the first-place Kings (17-3) earned another 6-3 victory, with goals from Bernauer, Tyson Janzen, Nic Andrusiak, Doell, Mason Bueckert and Willick.<\/p>\n
Both RDP futsal teams competed at the ACAC Northwest Regional at Northwestern Polytechnic, finishing the weekend with 1-2 records.<\/p>\n
The Queens Futsal squad opened with a 3-1 win over the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves before dropping decisions to the Concordia University Thunder and NAIT Ooks by identical 4-0 scores.<\/p>\n
The Kings Futsal team defeated the Wolves 3-1 in their opening match but fell 5-4 to Concordia and 3-0 to NAIT to close out regional play.<\/p>\n
RDP Athletics will continue conference competition across several sports in the coming weeks as teams move toward postseason action.<\/p>\n
