{"id":122199,"date":"2026-02-04T02:29:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T02:29:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/122199\/"},"modified":"2026-02-04T02:29:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-04T02:29:09","slug":"new-york-city-fcs-new-home-will-be-host-venue-for-la-2028-olympics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/122199\/","title":{"rendered":"New York City FC&#8217;s new home will be host venue for LA 2028 Olympics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New York City FC\u2019s new home isn\u2019t even built yet and it already has a feather in its cap.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games committee announced that the yet-to-be-completed Etihad Park will serve as a host venue for the 2028 Summer Olympic soccer tournaments. <\/p>\n<p>The new NYCFC home, along with stadiums in Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, San Jose, and San Diego, will host group stage and knockout matches during the Olympic tournament.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.50146628;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38380188\" width=\"886\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Etihad-Park-1.jpg\" alt=\"Rendering of New York City FC's new soccer stadium\" class=\"wp-image-38380188\"  \/>Rendering of New York City FC\u2019s new soccer stadium Photo courtesy of New York City FC<\/p>\n<p>Dates and matches will be announced in April, with the final stage matches taking place at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. The 2028 Summer Olympics are being held in Los Angeles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Olympic soccer matches are believed to be the first-ever Olympic events held in New York City.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re going to have Olympic soccer anywhere outside of LA, you have to have it in New York, and if you\u2019re going to have it in New York, you have to have it at our stadium,\u201d NYCFC CEO Brad Sims told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>NYCFC is still anticipating the venue to open in the spring of 2027, and Sims is expecting to have a firmer timeline to publicly share in the next month on the stadium. <\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.5538695;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38380210\" width=\"917\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Etihad-Park.jpg\" alt=\"Rendering of New York City FC's new soccer stadium\" class=\"wp-image-38380210\"  \/>Rendering of New York City FC\u2019s new soccer stadium Photo courtesy of New York City FC<\/p>\n<p>Etihad Park was included in the bid package for the 2031 Women\u2019s World Cup and the club has \u201craised our hand\u201d about hosting other big MLS events.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[The Olympic announcement] is kind of the first big event that we officially threw our hat in the ring for,\u201d Sims said. \u201cI think it\u2019s just a huge validation for the project and sign of things to come with other major events.
