EDWARDS, New York (WWNY) – A 16-year-old snowmobile operator was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center with life-threatening injuries after a head-on collision on a St. Lawrence County trail Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n
New York State Police responded to the crash on a snowmobile trail off County Route 24 in Edwards at approximately 1:39 p.m. on February 1.<\/p>\n
The teen was operating a 2016 Arctic Cat with an 18-year-old male passenger, both from Edwards, when they approached a blind hill crest while traveling southwest. A 2021 Polaris Indy operated by Gregory J. Coller, 50, of Canton, was traveling northeast and approaching the same hill crest.<\/p>\n
Both snowmobiles were traveling near the middle of the trail when they struck each other head-on, police said.<\/p>\n
Star Lake Rescue and Gouverneur Rescue responded to provide medical care to all three people involved in the crash.<\/p>\n
The 18-year-old passenger was transported to Gouverneur Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Coller was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n
The 16-year-old operator is listed in stable but critical condition at Upstate Medical Center.<\/p>\n
The investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n
