Despite rebuilding Brooklyn having one of the worst records in the NBA, Michael Porter Jr. says he can see light at the end of the tunnel.<\/p>\n

But with the trade deadline two days away \u2014 and the tanking Nets sure to get a number of offers<\/a> for their sweet-shooting forward \u2014 will Porter make it to that light? Or be dealt away beforehand?<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I\u2019ve stated that I\u2019m enjoying my time here, and I do see that the light at the end of the tunnel, and I do see the path that we\u2019re trying to take,\u201d said Porter, who returned from a personal leave for Tuesday\u2019s 125-109 home blowout loss against the Lakers<\/a>. \u201cThat\u2019s something that\u2019s out of my control. And wherever the wind blows, whatever the guys who run the organization want, then I\u2019m down for.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know that every situation has its blessings and things to take away from,\u201d said Porter, who scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the loss. \u201cSo I\u2019ve stated that I enjoy my time here. And two more days, if I make it through two or three more days, I\u2019ll be here. So, we\u2019ll see. We\u2019ll see what happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

The trade deadline is 3 p.m. Eastern on Thursday.<\/p>\n

And even though the perception around the league is that Brooklyn is not shopping Porter, he\u2019ll surely draw interest.<\/p>\n

With the Nets playing later that night in Orlando, that makes Tuesday\u2019s tilt the last home game before the trade deadline. Though it seems increasingly unlikely, will it be Porter\u2019s last as a Net? And how is he handling the hours leading up to it?<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, it\u2019s not really in my thought. The trade isn\u2019t really a thought in my day-to-day life, in my preparations, because it\u2019s something that\u2019s out of my control,\u201d said Porter, 27. \u201cIf I dwell too much on things that I have no part to play in, that just makes your life stressful.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I try to just give that to God. I just know that whatever situation I\u2019m thrown in \u2014 if it\u2019s staying here, if it\u2019s going somewhere else \u2014 I know that I\u2019ll be able to adjust, and I\u2019m still living the best life, so I can\u2019t complain either way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Porter could have valid complaints, being traded from a perennial contender to a tanking team. He\u2019d spent his first seven years in Denver, earning a title in 2023.<\/p>\n

But having that winning experience \u2014 and the chance to impart some of it on his young teammates \u2014 is making this new situation tenable.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sure one of the main reasons why I find this situation bearable and I enjoy it and it\u2019s fun is because of the fact that I\u2019ve had some of the years of consistent winning with the Nuggets,\u201d Porter said. \u201cSo to be in a situation now where it\u2019s a little more developing and building and looking to the future, I\u2019m probably a little bit more ok with it, just because I had some of the years of winning.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo this new experience is (fun). I find the joy in it, and it\u2019s fun for me. Losing is not fun, but I see the light at the end of the tunnel. I see the development, game-to-game. I see the young guys getting better, learning things. So that\u2019s cool.\u201d<\/p>\n

Porter \u2014 who missed the prior two games for his grandmother\u2019s funeral \u2014 went into Tuesday averaging 25.6 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.8 3-pointers, all career highs.<\/p>\n

Still, that wasn\u2019t enough to keep him from getting snubbed for the All-Star reserves<\/a>. Indiana\u2019s Pascal Siakam got the nod despite the Pacers (13-37) having an even worse record.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought I had a chance, for sure,\u201d said Porter, who could still be an injury replacement. \u201cBut I knew it was out of my control. I know the record probably plays a part into it, even though there\u2019s guys that are in there that don\u2019t have the most amazing record.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo that was a tough day because I thought there was a chance, but today is a new day.
