Rapper, actor and Staten Island native Clifford \u201cMethod Man\u201d Smith stars alongside Kelly Rowland in the new romantic comedy \u201cRelationship Goals,\u201d playing television producer Jarrett Roy who reconnects with his ex-girlfriend while competing for the same job, Screen Rant<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n

Smith, 54, said he was drawn to the project immediately upon learning Rowland would star, citing her performance in \u201cMea Culpa\u201d and their mutual respect as fellow artists who approach collaboration as \u201cteam players,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n

According to the outlet, the 30-year veteran of film and television described his character as a man contemplating legacy and seeking redemption with a past love, drawing on his own long-term relationship experience and the themes from Pastor Michael Todd\u2019s book that inspired the film. <\/p>\n

Smith identified his role in \u201cThe Cobbler\u201d with Adam Sandler and director Tom McCarthy as the impetus for his acting career, where he learned fundamental techniques that made him eager to pursue more challenging roles, the report said.<\/p>\n

The Wu-Tang Clan lyricist also expressed interest in joining either the Marvel or DC cinematic universes, noting he\u2019s already canon in the Netflix Marvel universe from his appearance in \u201cLuke Cage,\u201d and is currently reading DC\u2019s \u201cAbsolute Batman\u201d comic series.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think DC is more relevant because their movies are pretty good, the animated ones,\u201d he said. \u201cBut who wouldn\u2019t want to be a Marvel character, especially a comic book geek like myself? I just don\u2019t know where I\u2019d fit.\u201d <\/p>\n

Smith emphasized that while he continues to love hip-hop and will never abandon it, he now pursues music in a more laid-back capacity, focusing his professional energy on expanding his acting career into new genres and challenges, the report said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great pastime for me \u2014 something that I\u2019ve dedicated the majority of my life to and will never give up without a fight,\u201d he said. \u201cBut I do it now because I want [to], not because I have [to].\u201d<\/p>\n
