Investigators said the ring has ties to the Dominican Republic, Brazil, New York, Florida, and possibly other states. The investigation remains ongoing.

Acevedo, 36, of the Bronx, was charged with promoting third-degree prostitution in the third degree, a felony, and fifth-degree conspiracy, a misdemeanor, police said. He was issued a desk appearance ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.

The arrest comes days after Suffolk County enacted a new local law aimed at strengthening oversight of hotels and motels to combat human trafficking. Rogers Legislative Building in Hauppauge on Monday.

Suffolk County Legislator Chad Lennon (seated left) was joined by County Executive Ed Romaine, colleagues, law enforcement, and advocates after Lennon’s bill was signed into law, strengthening oversight of hotels and motels in Suffolk County to combat human trafficking. A press conference was held at the William H. Rogers Legislative Building on Monday, February 2. (courtesy office of Legislator Chad Lennon)

According to county officials, the new law increases mandatory record-keeping requirements, strengthens penalties for violations, and restricts hourly room rates at hotels and motels — practices frequently linked to trafficking and other criminal activity. Officials said the measure is intended to provide law enforcement with enhanced tools to identify, investigate, and deter trafficking activity while establishing clearer compliance standards within the hospitality industry.

“With this now signed into law, our law enforcement has more tools to prosecute those who trade people for money. Additionally, we will hold accountable all hotels and motels that allow this heinous crime to happen,” Suffolk County Legislator Chad Lennon said in a statement.

County officials said the law also strengthens cooperation between county agencies and law enforcement by improving transparency and ensuring swift consequences for establishments that enable or ignore trafficking activity.

“As we continue to confront the challenge and reality of human trafficking in Suffolk County, we must look at every aspect of this situation and address it accordingly,” Romaine said. “Legislator Lennon’s bill will play a key role in that fight and serve as the deterrent for those who use hotels and motels as a haven for human trafficking.”

Detectives are asking anyone who may have been a victim of the trafficking ring or who has information about the case to contact the Suffolk County Police Human Trafficking Unit at 631-854-7512 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

HUNTINGTON STATION, NY — A Bronx man was arrested Wednesday for his role in an international human trafficking…

[38
128,9,24,63,129,131,130
0":"post-123293","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-the-bronx","8":"tag-bronx","9":"tag-new-york","10":"tag-new-york-city","11":"tag-nyc","12":"tag-the-bronx","13":"tag-the-bronx-headlines","14":"tag-the-bronx-news
["GET
