STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 After more than a half-century in the fur industry, Robert Cosumano is putting a lid on his storied local business and long-standing family legacy.<\/p>\n

As owner of L\u2019Fur\u2019s in New Dorp, Cosumano\u2019s furs have remained a symbol of luxury, with top-tier materials like Russian Sable, Chinchilla, and Lynx.<\/p>\n

The fur retailer entered the fur business at the age of 15, working alongside his father, Lucian Cosumano, a couturier who created high end garments in Manhattan\u2019s Fur District. <\/p>\n

Cosumano said he couldn\u2019t wait for Saturdays to accompany his dad and learn the art of manufacturing and styling furs and creating custom fur garments.<\/p>\n

Throughout the years the savvy business entrepreneur, who\u2019s outfitted generations, traveled the world in order to bring his clients the best in fur and fashion.<\/p>\n

A CHARITABLE RETAILER<\/p>\n

Cosumano has donated to myriad not-for-profit organizations, including the American Cancer Society, who lauded the local businessman for hosting fundraisers, the proceeds of which benefited breast cancer research. <\/p>\n

He supports Rocco Strong Inc., a not-for-profit named for Rocco Gabriel DiMaggio, a 7-year-old cancer survivor, that\u2019s dedicated to making childhood cancers a priority through increased funding and awareness.<\/p>\n

In addition, he became involved in the Save Our Soldiers Program, connecting community and military by sending custom care boxes, supplies, and letters of support to soldiers. <\/p>\n

When Hurricane Sandy hit, Cosumano supported Staten Island Strong, a grassroots organization dedicated to the cleanup and restructuring of homes.<\/p>\n

A TOUGH DECISION<\/p>\n

The decision to retire didn\u2019t come easy for Cosumano. <\/p>\n

\u201cOur store on New Dorp Lane has been more than a place of business,\u201d said Cosumano. \u201cIt has been a place of stories, of style and of legacy. We have had the honor of helping you find the perfect coat, restyling the heirloom fur passed down to a granddaughter, and creating the piece that made you feel truly yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cTo our loyal clients, we say thank you. Your support, your stories, your trust are what carried us all of these years. We\u2019ve built relationships that we will always cherish.\u201d<\/p>\n

A GOING OUT OF BUSINESS SALE<\/p>\n

As Cusumano prepares for the next chapter in his life, he\u2019s conducting a going out of business sale.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will be inviting our clients and the public to attend our sale that has already began,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

During the event, he will be liquidating every garment and accessory.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom our family to yours, thank you for your loyalty, friendship and support through the years,\u201d Cosumano added. \u201cWe have cherished every moment serving you. We wish you and your family continued health and happiness during the years ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n
