Last week, Bruriah High School unveiled GRIT, a bold, school-wide initiative designed to empower students with the skills and mindset needed to grow through challenge. Running throughout the spring semester, this multidisciplinary program focuses on four core pillars\u2014Growth, Resilience, Integrity and Triumph\u2014and reflects Bruriah\u2019s unwavering commitment to educating the whole student academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.<\/p>\n
\u201cGRIT is about teaching our students that struggle is not a setback, but rather a catalyst for growth,\u201d said Dr. Bethany Strulowitz, Principal \u201cWhen students learn how to persevere with integrity and courage, they develop the self-confidence needed to achieve their dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n
The launch of GRIT began with a powerful video created by juniors Sherira Shulkes and Kayla Speyer, exploring the essential role of failure in personal growth. The video spotlighted well-known historical figures who were once labeled \u201cfailures,\u201d only to later achieve extraordinary success, reinforcing the message that growth often begins where comfort ends.<\/p>\n
Following the video, Mrs. Margueya Poupko, Director of Academic Enrichment, offered a Torah-based framework for GRIT. She emphasized that the Jewish people are, at their core, a nation shaped by perseverance, one whose very existence is rooted in the ability to confront adversity with emunah, initiative and resilience.<\/p>\n
The first phase of the initiative, Growth, includes a school-wide read of Hostage by Eli Sharabi, a student-designed obstacle course that encourages teamwork and perseverance, and a \u201ckabbalah wall\u201d where students track their personal growth throughout the semester.<\/p>\n
Looking ahead, Resilience will take center stage at the upcoming school Shabbaton, while Integrity will be explored during a post-Pesach yom iyun. The program will culminate with Triumph, a celebration honoring both individual and collective achievements achieved through GRIT.<\/p>\n
Through this innovative initiative, Bruriah is equipping students with lifelong tools\u2014to face challenges head-on, learn from setbacks and emerge stronger, grounded in values that extend far beyond the classroom.
