STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 New York City funding for a new workforce grant program aims to improve job opportunities for young people on the North Shore. <\/p>\n
The North Shore Workforce Fund<\/a>, offered by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC), will make up to $250,000 available for non-profit organizations\u2019 and academic institutions\u2019 to improve their workforce programs across the Island\u2019s northern waterfront.<\/p>\n Shehila Stevens, EDC\u2019s executive vice president of equity and community impact, said she hopes the workforce investment will serve as a compliment to the North Shore Action Plan, a $400 million public investment meant to revitalize neighborhoods from Stapleton to New Brighton. <\/p>\n \u201cAs the city continues its work across the North Shore creating jobs, new housing, and vibrant public spaces, it is critical that all Staten Islanders are positioned to benefit from the future economy,\u201d Stevens said. \u201cBuilding a strong North Shore, with and for Staten Islanders, means making sure that everyone benefits from the borough\u2019s promising economic future.\u201d<\/p>\n In its search for local partners to administer the funds, the EDC issued a request for proposals Thursday asking for ideas from local organizations on how they would spend awards ranging in value from $30,000 to $250,000. <\/p>\n Eligible organizations would use the funds to scale their current or future workforce programs through investments in things like participant stipends, staff hiring and equipment costs, according to the request for proposal.<\/p>\n Prospective award recipients will have until 4 p.m. March 27 to submit their ideas, according to the request for proposals. <\/p>\n Several organizations on the North Shore provide workforce development opportunities, including the Staten Island Social Care Network<\/a>.<\/p>\n
