STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Junior Grace Anderson netted a team-high 21 points and recorded eight assists, six steals and six rebounds as Tottenville downed host Susan Wagner, 77-56, in a PSAL 4A Staten Island division game Wednesday night. <\/p>\n
Araya Lichtman chipped in with 16 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals, while Gabriella Ortiz (15 points, three and four rebounds) and Brianna Ardolic (10 points, seven rebounds and four assists) also contributed.<\/p>\n
The Pirates moved to 13-0 in the league with one game left to play tonight vs. New Dorp. That\u2019s when Anderson is expected to score her 1,000th career point as she is only 11 points away from the mark. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe (had) a rough start; our shots just weren\u2019t falling,\u201d said Tottenville head coach Jessica Althoff of Wednesday\u2019s game. \u201cWe missed a ton of easy ones. The second half we woke up and things started to fall. I told them at halftime we need to play harder on defense. Good defense leads to good offense. The girls decided to turn it up and out scored Wagner in the third quarter.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Pirates led only 29-23 at the half, but outscored the Falcons (10-4) 25-13 in the third to pull away. <\/p>\n
\u201cOnce again, it\u2019s always a group effort that wins games like this,\u201d said Althoff. \u201cHaving four players in double digits shows that as a group the girls really came together to win this one for us.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been saying this all year, but when we come to play as one we will be hard to beat. We have multiple kids that can get into the passing lane and pick off passes. We must continue to play together and hopefully are run in the playoffs will be deep.\u201d<\/p>\n
