WASHINGTON \u2014 Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is demanding a public congressional hearing about her and her husband Bill\u2019s relationships with deceased sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and his convicted accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell \u2014 despite both having already agreed to closed-door depositions.<\/p>\n
The Clintons caved<\/a> on Monday to avoid a vote to hold them in contempt of Congress for refusing to appear for depositions as part of the House Oversight Committee\u2019s Epstein investigation.<\/p>\n But by Friday, the former first lady accused Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) of having \u201cmoved the goalposts\u201d regarding the subpoenas \u2014 which were issued last August<\/a> \u2014 \u201cand turned accountability into an exercise in distraction.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cFor six months, we engaged Republicans on the Oversight Committee in good faith. Matt Gaetz replied to the post, \u201cI\u2019m with her<\/a>,\u201d referencing the slogan from the Democrat\u2019s failed 2016 presidential campaign, suggesting some Republicans may be open to the hearing.<\/p>\n But a House Oversight panel spokeswoman fired back: \u201cThe Clintons are going to Clinton and try to spin the facts<\/a> since no one is buying their claims.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe only ones moving the goalposts are, as usual, the Clintons and their attorneys. The Clintons were issued bipartisan subpoenas for depositions\u2014not a hearing,\u201d the spokeswoman said.<\/p>\n The Clintons provided written declarations through their attorneys to the Oversight Committee last month denying any knowledge of Epstein or Maxwell\u2019s sickening sex crimes against young girls. AP<\/p>\n \u201cIn the wake of facing contempt of Congress proceedings, the Clintons\u2019 attorney finally agreed to filmed, transcribed depositions on February 26 and 27,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n \u201cThese depositions are in accordance with House and Committee rules.
