The New York Mets have made a few big moves to bolster their roster after a disappointing season last year. This offseason, they’ve bounced back from the losses of superstars like Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz by signing Bo Bichette and trading for Freddy Peralta.<\/p>\n

But the Mets still need to bolster their bullpen. They could afford to add one or two more star pitchers before opening day.<\/p>\n

Just Baseball’s Joe Browne put together a trade package that would bring Houston Astros reliever Bryan Abreu<\/a> to Queens in exchange for David Peterson,\u00a0Nick Morabito,\u00a0and R.J. Gordon.<\/p>\n

“Bryan Abreu has been one most consistent relievers in all of baseball this decade and would be a perfect addition for the Mets,” Abreu\u2019s arsenal is very limited, as he only throws a four-seam fastball and slider. However, he makes the two-pitch mix effective because of a lively fastball and a wicked slider.<\/p>\n

“Last season, he struck out 35.2% of batters he faced and generated whiffs 41.2% of the time. Both elite marks place him in the 98th and 99th percentile, respectively.”<\/p>\n

This would be quite a price to pay for Abreu, but the Mets would need to be willing to cut ties with big league talent to pluck a star from another contender.<\/p>\n

This deal would push both teams in the right direction. The Mets need bullpen help, and Abreu would give them a reliable arm for the backend of games, alongside Devin Williams and company. The Astros need to bolster their starting rotation after losing Framber Valdez in free agency.<\/p>\n
