{"id":125107,"date":"2026-02-06T13:54:42","date_gmt":"2026-02-06T13:54:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/125107\/"},"modified":"2026-02-06T13:54:42","modified_gmt":"2026-02-06T13:54:42","slug":"staten-island-hs-girls-hoops-anderson-nets-1000th-career-point-in-tottenvilles-psal-triumph-over-new-dorp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/125107\/","title":{"rendered":"Staten Island HS girls\u2019 hoops: Anderson nets 1,000th career point in Tottenville\u2019s PSAL triumph over New Dorp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"TXJA4IMUSJCMJGWFFT6WB44EJI\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. &#8212; In a day and age where so many kids are specializing in one sport, Tottenville\u2019s two-sport phenom Grace Anderson is certainly bucking the trend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"GOION4PJEFGGZAXV3SQS5VSJ4Y\">Anderson, a flag football All-American, who was a key member of the Pirates 2025 city championship team, eclipsed 1,000th-point milestone in basketball Thursday night as the Pirates walloped host New Dorp, 80-26.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZET6KUX4PBFDPB2J4KCHBK4VWQ\">The junior guard, who entered the game with 989 career points, registered the magical number on a driving layup down the right sideline at the 3:00 mark of the first period.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"G5SJ7QIGTFDKDI3UFCTBJOSUXY\">\u201cI\u2019m relieved to get it over with,\u201d laughed Anderson. \u201cI knew I only needed 11 points, but I was a little nervous for sure in the beginning of the game. I just wanted to get it done early and then concentrate on winning the game. In addition to copping a city title in flag, the Huguenot resident led the Pirates to the PSAL 4A semifinals in hoops a year ago. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"4AVIAJVF6NFQXIYRH42WIPU3DY\">\u201cGrace is special player and a special person and to score the 1,000 points is such a great accomplishment for her,\u201d praised Pirate head coach Jessica Althoff, who has led the Pirates to a sparkling 18-4 overall mark on the season. \u201cShe is a phenomenal teammate and always looks to get her team involved. She works extremely hard day in and day out to make herself and the team better and the training she does on the side is even more impressive.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"J3FE2KZ24FC5ZPPST2DWFZKGUI\">\u201cMy family has played a big part in my success as they\u2019re always pushing me to be the best I can,\u201d said Anderson, who fell in love with the game immediately when she started playing around kindergarten. \u201cMy dad (Jimmy) played D1 baseball at LIU, so I think I get my athletic ability from him, but I definitely feel I get my competitiveness from my mom (Sherri) &#8211; you have to see her in action! (Annie DeBiase for the Advance\/SILive.com)(Annie DeBiase for the Advance\/SILive.com)<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"A2XXRPSWZFHBPKCD3R6NMKJXYU\">Though only a junior, Anderson will have big decisions coming soon, whether to pursue flag or hoops at the next level. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"SN3EELA2G5FYXGHMYMMXVAX7SU\">Or maybe both?<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"EFT6RGWZ4JBVNO7OYJLEY5QWQ4\">When pressed on which sport she prefers best, the wide receiver\/DB paused before answering.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"UVKDLEXPYFAHDKDTVWBJOUK64M\">\u201cFlag football is so much fun, I love playing it, but I couldn\u2019t imagine not playing basketball,\u201d laughed Anderson. \u201cRealistically I want to lock in on D1 basketball now, but playing the two sports I love would be a dream come true.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"YDMTRGTBYJGD7NNTAWT3ZPHHDY\">***<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"URCQC3YOUFEU3IAPQSK7PH2OEY\">NOTES: Anderson tallied a team-high 19 points in the game to lead the Pirates to the 4A win.
