STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Pete Davidson<\/a> was back in his garage<\/a> for episode two of \u201cThe Pete Davidson Show.\u201d<\/p>\n

Joined by guest Charlamagne Tha God, the Staten Island native spent the 36-minute podcast episode bouncing between early-career memories, therapy talk and the exhausting nature of internet culture.<\/p>\n

Much of the episode was rooted in their early MTV days, when a teenage Davidson was a regular face on MTV shows<\/a> \u201cGuy Code,\u201d \u201cWild \u2018n Out\u201d and \u201cFailosophy.\u201d Charlamagne spoke about being struck by Davidson\u2019s emotional intelligence at such a young age, noting that Davidson didn\u2019t \u201cact like a 16-year-old.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davidson then credited Charlamagne for treating him like \u201canother dude\u201d rather than a kid, and for saving him from blowing thousands on a real gold chain when a dipped Cuban link would do just fine.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor some reason, at that time in my life, I thought it was like, you are not a man unless you have a real Cuban link,\u201d Davidson said.<\/p>\n

The two then reminisced about the mid-2010s, which Davidson called the sweet spot: \u201caround the time \u2018Views\u2019 came out, the Drake album.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was before everybody started getting angry at everybody on the internet,\u201d Davidson said.<\/p>\n

The conversation turned more serious as Charlamagne credited Davidson for being one of the first comedians he remembered openly talking about therapy. <\/p>\n

Davidson explained that the honesty came from fear that without context, people would just think he was \u201cf—— nuts.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cIf you didn\u2019t know that about me or if I wasn\u2019t like, \u2018Hey, I struggle with this, just so you know,\u2019 you\u2019d be like, \u2018Whoa, Pete\u2019s f—— nuts\u2019 or \u2018he\u2019s weird,\u2019\u201d Davidson said. \u201cBut if you know I\u2019m going through that, I was like, oh they\u2019d be like, \u2018Well, he\u2019s probably, you know, dealing with that.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Charlamagne shared his own journey through therapy and an ayahuasca experience that forced him to confront truths he had been avoiding. <\/p>\n

\u201cStop lying to yourself and stop volunteering those lies to other people,\u201d he recalled realizing.<\/p>\n

Davidson then related it back to his own experiences with therapy and learning to not take responsibility for everyone else\u2019s emotions.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone has their own s— going on, which is another thing that you have to learn when you\u2019re cohabitating with someone. They\u2019re not always pissed at you. Most of the time, it is not you,\u201d Davidson said. \u201cPeople could have their own experience and be sad and going through something, and it\u2019s not my f—— job to make you laugh and get you out of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Charlamagne and Davidson then dug into the exhausting reality of online criticism, with Davidson admitting he ditched Instagram because \u201cAnytime I would look at it, I would feel awful after,\u201d and while he\u2019s never downloaded TikTok, it gives him \u201cso much anxiety.\u201d <\/p>\n

Despite the constant noise and trolling that comes with being well-known public figures, both agreed that nothing hurts more than indifference. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou know the worst thing people can be saying about you? Nothing,\u201d Charlamagne said. \u201cIf they don\u2019t say anything, that\u2019s when you\u2019re done \u2026 When your latest standup came out, nobody had the reaction, nobody cared.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, that would kill me,\u201d Davidson said. \u201cI\u2019d rather everyone say it\u2019s terrible.\u201d<\/p>\n

The conversation then drifted into aliens, AI and Davidson\u2019s dream of the internet simply disappearing one day. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe just need one nerd to shut off whatever that switch is \u2014 that\u2019s how stupid I am. I think there\u2019s like a switch somewhere and then like all apps die,\u201d Davidson said. \u201cThink about everyone\u2019s whole existence. Like, once this is gone, the amount of people that are like, \u2018Well, what do I do now?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

To close out the episode, Charlamagne left Davidson with one piece of parenting advice. <\/p>\n

\u201cPatience, man,\u201d Charlamagne said. \u201cPatience with them, but most importantly, patience with yourself because you\u2019re not gonna always get it right.\u201d<\/p>\n
