Getty Images<\/p>\nNow that he\u2019s retired, Cardinal Timothy Dolan is staying put in New York as he fields book and documentary offers \u2014and that\u2019s also keeping him in the political limelight.<\/p>\n
The beloved former head of the New York Archdiocese, which contains one of the country\u2019s largest groups of Catholics, this week spoke out against everything from \u201cwhat might be high-handed tactics by ICE\u2019\u2019 to antisemitism.<\/p>\n

He urged the Trump administration to \u201ctry to tone this down\u2019\u2019 when it comes immigration sweeps that are roiling the nation, even as he said border protection is important.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m kinda grateful the president \u2026 is now tempering things,\u2019\u2019 Dolan, 76, told the outlet the Free Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n Dolan has told Fox <\/a>he already received several offers to write a book and also to make a documentary after retiring as head of the archdiocese<\/a> earlier this month.<\/p>\n He told the Free Press he\u2019s also gotten \u201ca bunch of invitations\u2019\u2019 to go around visiting parishes.<\/p>\n Either way, he will be staying in New York, where he has been living in a mansion on Fifth Avenue adjacent to St. Patrick\u2019s Cathedral, he said.<\/p>\n Dolan, who was born in Missouri, admitted he was nervous about moving to the Big Apple at first.<\/p>\n \u201cYou have all these stereotypes of New York. \u2026 \u2018I hear they\u2019re mean there, they\u2019re impersonal, they\u2019re cold. I hear they\u2019re pagans, \u2019\u2019 said Dolan, who was appointed archbishop in 2009.<\/p>\n \u201cNone of that stuff was true.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n He said it didn\u2019t take long for him to feel like an adopted New Yorker.<\/p>\n A few months after he became archbishop, \u201cI was at Yankee Stadium, they happened to be playing the [St. Louis] Cardinals,\u2019\u2019 he told the outlet, referring to his Midwest favorite team.<\/p>\n \u201cOne of the guys says to me sitting nearby, \u2018Aren\u2019t you Archbishop Dolan?\u2019 And he said, \u2018Well, you know, we understand you can root for the Cardinals. So don\u2019t you be embarrassed rooting for the Cardinals.<\/p>\n \u201c \u2018And by the way, I hear you like beer.
