NEW YORK (PIX11) \u2014 An Extreme Cold Warning has been issued for New York and New Jersey ahead of subzero temperatures and snow forecasted for the weekend.<\/p>\n
The Extreme Cold Warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. Saturday through 1 p.m. Sunday, along with a wind advisory from 9 a.m. Saturday through midnight Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n
NYC forecast and PIX11\u2019s Weather Center <\/a><\/p>\n Temperatures are expected to fall as low as 12 degrees on Saturday with wind chill values between -10 and zero and wind gusts as high as 48 mph, forecasters said. Overnight hours will be even more dangerously cold with wind chills between -20 to -25.<\/p>\n Amid the extreme cold, snow is also forecast to begin Friday night and last through midday Saturday.<\/p>\n When will the snow start in New York and New Jersey?<\/p>\n Snow is expected to begin between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. early Saturday morning and continue through 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n More Local News <\/a><\/p>\n New York City could get up to an inch of snow, with up to 2 inches in areas further east. Some parts of Long Island could get up to 3 inches of accumulation.<\/p>\n How is NYC preparing?<\/p>\n The New York City Emergency Management has issued a weather alert from Friday through Monday, urging residents to treat the upcoming cold snap with \u201cseriousness.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThese temperatures are dangerous, and even brief time outdoors can be life-threatening,\u201d said Mayor Zohran Mamdani. \u201cPlease stay indoors when you can, look out for one another, and call 311 if you see someone who needs help or if your heat isn\u2019t working.\u201d<\/p>\n More: Latest News from Around the Tri-State <\/a><\/p>\n The Department of Homeless Services will maintain its 24-hour Enhanced Code Blue operations with additional warming centers.
