{"id":126451,"date":"2026-02-07T22:23:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-07T22:23:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/126451\/"},"modified":"2026-02-07T22:23:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-07T22:23:09","slug":"friendlys-that-closed-after-50-years-in-metuchen-to-become-new-smash-burger-restaurant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/126451\/","title":{"rendered":"Friendly\u2019s that closed after 50 years in Metuchen to become new smash burger restaurant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HPLI2M6JQBEEJLKX3GMOFZA6IQ\"><a href=\"https:\/\/brunswickburgerhouse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/brunswickburgerhouse.com\/\">Brunswick Burger House<\/a> plans to open soon in Metuchen at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/middlesex\/2025\/12\/longtime-friendlys-in-central-nj-closes-new-restaurant-will-occupy-the-site.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/middlesex\/2025\/12\/longtime-friendlys-in-central-nj-closes-new-restaurant-will-occupy-the-site.html\">former Friendly\u2019s restaurant that closed<\/a> after nearly 50 years. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"DBKJ6OU5H5C2FPVK3N2TIFBLHI\">The business owner is going through the approval process to open the 2,400-square-foot restaurant at 550 Middlesex Ave., according to a Metuchen zoning official. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"3OMOLTCHTJBH7OHIMXYH64P7KM\">Brunswick Burger House, which currently operates one restaurant at 215 Roosevelt Ave. in Carteret, is planning a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/business\/2026\/02\/nj-smash-burger-restaurant-plans-to-open-4-new-spots-in-major-expansion.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/business\/2026\/02\/nj-smash-burger-restaurant-plans-to-open-4-new-spots-in-major-expansion.html\">big expansion with four new locations<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"TGGNAVHZAFE3NMNDL75P7RSPS4\">The locations listed as \u201ccoming soon\u201d include Metuchen, Newark, East Brunswick and Parsippany.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"WL4OJ6LKOBFHJDHM5IYRUIJOGQ\">The menu includes smashed burgers with a plant-based option, along with chicken sandwiches and tenders. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"CCHGTTP5RVCZ5IBWWJRWUHCCUI\">Side items feature fries, cheese fries and loaded chicken fries.
