When Susan King\u2019s disaster of a wheelchair hit the ice and got stuck,<\/a> she knew she was in trouble.<\/p>\n

The 66-year-old was rolling down a Harlem sidewalk when her electric chair ran into a mound of snow and slush <\/a>piled outside an M&T Bank. She fought to keep her balance.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe stupid thing wouldn\u2019t budge,\u201d King told The Post. \u201cAnd then it tipped me right over.\u201d<\/p>\n

The mother of two slammed onto the frozen pavement, helpless.<\/p>\n

Stranded in the cold, King waited as passersby called for help. <\/p>\n

Soon, police officers and firefighters rushed to her aid \u2014 lifting her from the ground, wrapping her in a blanket, righting her wheelchair, and even waiting with her until an Uber arrived to take her home.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were really, really nice,\u201d King said. \u201cThey were kind. They didn\u2019t rush me. They stayed.\u201d<\/p>\n

King lives with lupus,<\/a> severe knee problems, asthma, vein issues, and lingering pain from spinal surgery \u2014 but the most dangerous problem she\u2019s got is her own wheelchair, she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis chair risks my life every day,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s reported problem after problem, but Medicare and National Seating and Mobility, the company that supplied it,<\/a> keep giving her the runaround, she claimed.<\/p>\n

Repairs are promised, paperwork is shuffled, and nothing changes. Meanwhile, the chair has failed her repeatedly. She\u2019s fallen several times before. In one of those accidents, she broke four toes.<\/p>\n

So far, King said, the chair and long list of repairs have added up to a whopping $75,000. And although she isn\u2019t obligated to pay out of pocket, King is concerned that \u201cthe chair may kill her.\u201d<\/p>\n

And she\u2019s angry.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s made phone calls since she got the chair in June, but \u201cevery time, it\u2019s the same thing. No answers. No fix,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She plans to call the bank, Medicare, and National Seating and Mobility and send them the photos of her latest disaster. She hasn\u2019t ruled out a lawsuit.<\/p>\n
