This illegal funding freeze would have caused severe chaos in the lives of some of the most vulnerable families in our state.\u00a0I am\u00a0proud to have secured another victory in this case\u00a0to\u00a0put a stop to it.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On January 8, Attorney General James\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ag.ny.gov\/press-release\/2026\/attorney-general-james-sues-trump-administration-protect-billions-dollars\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">led four other states in suing the administration<\/a>\u00a0to protect three critical programs from\u00a0the administration\u2019s attempt to\u00a0target its political opponents by\u00a0freezing\u00a0over\u00a0$10 billion in federal funds to the states.\u00a0The freeze\u00a0jeopardized\u00a0funds for the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, and the Social Services Block Grant (SSBG) in the five states. On January 9, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ag.ny.gov\/press-release\/2026\/attorney-general-james-wins-court-order-stopping-10-billion-cut-childcare-and\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">granted the states\u2019 motion for a temporary restraining order<\/a>, blocking the implementation of the funding freeze.
