One person was removed from a vehicle that overturned in the Norwood section of The Bronx in the early hours of Sunday, Feb. 8, in freezing conditions, police said.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
An NYPD spokesperson told Norwood News at 1.15 a.m., police received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle collision on East Gun Hill Road and Tryon Avenue (in Norwood). \u201cAt this time, it\u2019s looking like a one-vehicle accident,\u201d the spokesperson said. \u201cI don\u2019t have the make or model. It appears as though the vehicle overturned somehow.\u201d<\/p>\n

The spokesperson continued, \u201cLooks like there was one occupant who was removed.\u201d We asked if the occupant was hospitalized and the spokesperson said based on the report, it didn\u2019t appear so.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson added that there was no information about the occupant\u2019s condition and said the NYPD press office would have been notified if there had been a fatality or serious injury.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cNo arrests or anything so doesn\u2019t look like anything too significant,\u201d the spokesperson said. Norwood News has also contacted EMS\/FDNY for details of their response to the incident and were informed the department received a 911 call at 1.14 a.m. for a report of a motor vehicle collision involving an overturned vehicle at 245 East Gun Hill Road between Tryon Avenue and \u00a0Kings College Place.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n They said EMS transported one patient to Saint Barnabas Hospital and their condition and description were unknown. Temperatures at around 3 a.m. on Sunday morning were around 2 degrees F.<\/p>\n In a video posted to the Citizens\u2019 App, one vehicle is seen overturned on an incline on a section of East Gunhill Road close to the median by Kings College Place, not far from Tryon Avenue. Citizen user Angel 3222 wrote, \u201cGuys, the person got in an ambulance. Pray for his or her safety.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Police and EMS\/FDNY units are also seen in the video and some pedestrians are seen standing nearby seemingly taking in the scene. The NYPD are later seen by the impacted car which was returned to its upright position.<\/p>\n The aftermath of a car accident is seen Sunday morning, 2\/8\/26, at 245 East Gunhill Road, Bronx. Glass and other debris from the crash are seen scattered on the street, and a road sign on the medium is seen toppled over. It\u2019s not yet known in which direction the vehicle was moving at the time of the accident.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n We spoke to a number of businesses in the local area, including one laundromat which operates 24\/7 and asked if they had witnessed the crash or its immediate aftermath but nobody had. Many were shocked to hear about it.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n According to reporting<\/a>\u00a0by The Guardian, New York State is experiencing one of its longest stretches of freezing temperatures since 1960, with 17 people already dead across the City since the cold snap began, at least 13 of those linked to hypothermia. Meanwhile, the news outlet also reported<\/a> that the City estimates that 800 homeless people have been moved indoors, and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani<\/a>, said recently, \u201cWe have been taking every possible measure to get New Yorkers inside. This has been a full all-hands-on-deck approach.\u201d<\/p>\n Meanwhile, NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) has also been working around the clock<\/a> to keep the City\u2019s streets salted and clear of snow, while pedestrians remain frustrated that the sidewalks are taking longer to clear.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n As reported<\/a>, a 47-year-old man was arrested following a fatal vehicle collision on the Major Deegan Expressway in Van Cortlandt Park by Jerome Avenue, north of Norwood, on Friday morning, Feb. 6, police said.<\/p>\n The NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad investigates any criminal aspects of vehicle collisions, while NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) reviews the street design at the crash locations.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The latest available traffic fatality statistics in the 52nd Precinct, where the car overturned, as of Feb. 1, are attached above.<\/p>\n A code blue remains in effect,<\/a> and warming centers remain open<\/a> and available to those who need them. Alternate side parking is suspended through Tuesday, Feb. 10.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Many animal rescue organizations are encouraging New Yorkers to help in whatever way they can street cats and dogs from freezing outside.
