In a tremendously positive sign for New York City\u2019s future, the city\u2019s No. 1 business group, the Partnership for New York City, looks determined to stand up vigorously to Mayor Zohran Mamdani\u2019s agenda.<\/p>\n
Contrary to a nasty hit piece in New York magazine, this is not a repudiation of Kathy Wylde\u2019s decades of strong leadership of the Partnership<\/a>, but simply a recognition that the local political community has taken a toxic turn.<\/p>\n Indeed, we expect the group will work smoothly with the City Council under Speaker Julie Menin<\/a> to promote a positive agenda for Gotham\u2019s economy. <\/p>\n For a host of reasons, the Partnership \u2014 a coalition of over 300 major employers: corporate, investment and entrepreneurial firms \u2014 and other biz groups have long avoided confronting the rise of hard-left politics in the city. <\/p>\n But the rise of Mamdani and his Democratic Socialists \u2014 following on Mayor Bill de Blasio\u2019s misbegotten eight years in City Hall, the killer blow of COVID and the de Blasio-Cuomo lockdowns, then the uneven mayoralty of Eric Adams \u2014 shows the need for a new approach.<\/p>\n Progressive de Blasio and \u201cmoderate\u201d Gov. Andrew Cuomo both played rope-a-dope with the private sector, demanding it fund their political machines in return for being (mostly) left alone. <\/p>\n \t\t\tMore From\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPost Editorial Board<\/p>\n Adams sought a reboot with a pro-business, pro-growth agenda, but the left\u2019s dominance in the Legislature and the City Council under then-Speaker Adrienne Adams, plus the chaos of the migrant chaos that President Joe Biden imposed on New York, largely frustrated those hopes.<\/p>\n
