PARK SLOPE, Brooklyn (PIX11) \u2014 It\u2019s almost that time of year when you say Happy Lunar New Year!<\/p>\n

Whether you call the new year the year of the horse or the year of the fire-horse, it is definitely cause for celebration.<\/p>\n

There was even a little pony at this Lunar New Year celebration at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.<\/p>\n

It was the eighth annual Lunar New Year celebration at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, with a sold-out crowd of 500 people, and so much for everyone to learn about these Asian traditions.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s actually the year of the fire horse with galloping energy,\u201d Sandy Lin, the event organizer, told PIX11 News. \u201cIt\u2019s a very hopeful, energetic time to get to work,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The lion dance from the Brooklyn Lion Club was performed three times in a packed hall with so many appreciative adults and little ones.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s such a great, community-building event,\u201d Fred Tang, the board chair of the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, told PIX11 News. \u201cSo many folks celebrating Lunar New Year, exchanging traditions, bringing families all together,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

There was a performance by Violet Duabolo, a yoyo-like Asian\u00a0 tradition, as well as dance classes and a tea ceremony<\/p>\n

\u201cMy family is from Taiwan, so it\u2019s really important to me that my children are connecting to my heritage,\u201d Eveline Chang-Fritsch told PIX11 News. \u201cI want to keep that lineage going,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe lion dance is the highlight for me,\u201d her husband, Brian Fritsch, told PIX11 News. 4-year-old Quincey and 6-year-old Olly agreed.<\/p>\n

The year of the fire horse doesn\u2019t officially start until February 17, so there will be many more lion dances to come.<\/p>\n
