(Ishika Samant\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>How\u2019s that for an extra point?<\/p>\n<p>The club\u2019s walls are plastered with Puerto Rican flags and portraits of the bar\u2019s owner and matriarch, whose real name is Maria Antonia Cay.<\/p>\n<p>According to the New York Times, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/07\/24\/dining\/williamsburg-nyc-puerto-rican-social-club.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&amp;referringSource=articleShare\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">To\u00f1ita. opened the club in the 1970s as the Caribbean Social Club,<\/a> a members-only hangout for the neighborhood baseball team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dIt\u2019s like a temple,\u201d she said on her Instagram page.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Ton\u0303ita with Bad Bunny during Super Bowl Halftime show. (NFL)<\/p>\n<p>In 2000, she obtained a liquor license and opened the club\u2019s doors to loyal patrons who feasted on pots of Puerto Rican dishes that they washed down with inexpensive drinks.<\/p>\n<p>Among her customers was Bad Bunny himself, who visited the club several years ago, a visit documented with a picture of her with the singer on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/tonitasny\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">her Instagram page.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Super Bowl boost was big as To\u00f1ita has struggled to keep the place open in the face of aggressive gentrification.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ve offered me up to $9 million,\u201d To\u00f1ita said during an interview on social media, \u201cand I don\u2019t plan to sell ever.
