\u201cIn Williamsburg, the Latinos, Boricuas they were screaming when To\u00f1ita came out,\u201d said Jackie, who was born in Puerto Rico and lives in Williamsburg. \u201cThey showed our little piece of Grand Street. It was amazing, we were really proud.\u201d<\/p>\n
Williamsburg\u2019s Los Sures neighborhood was once home to a vibrant Puerto Rican and Dominican community. Over the years, gentrification has changed the area drastically, but To\u00f1ita\u2019s Caribbean Social Club, which opened in the 1970s, has remained a staple.<\/p>\n
Residents describe To\u00f1ita as a local icon.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s the last stronghold for Puerto Ricans in this neighborhood,\u201d said Ronald Rivera, a longtime neighbor. \u201cGiven the history of this neighborhood as well, I think she’s really important.”<\/p>\n
Bad Bunny has honored To\u00f1ita multiple times, visiting the club on several occasions. <\/p>\n
\u201cI had the pleasure of meeting him at To\u00f1ita\u2019s when he released ‘Deb\u00ed Tirar M\u00e1s Fotos,’\u201d one local said. \u201cI got to give him a hug and a kiss.\u201d<\/p>\n
