{"id":128832,"date":"2026-02-10T15:28:13","date_gmt":"2026-02-10T15:28:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/128832\/"},"modified":"2026-02-10T15:28:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T15:28:13","slug":"arrest-made-in-2021-long-island-acid-attack-that-left-woman-disfigured-sources-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/128832\/","title":{"rendered":"Arrest made in 2021 Long Island acid attack that left woman disfigured, sources say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An arrest has been made in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/nafiah-ikram-acid-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">acid attack on a Long Island college student<\/a> that happened nearly five years ago, sources told CBS News New York.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2021, Nafiah Ikram was attacked in her Elmont driveway by a hooded man who\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/long-island-acid-attack-nafiah-ikram-elmont\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">threw a cup of acid<\/a>\u00a0in her face and drove off. The incident left her face disfigured and her throat burned.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The defendant<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/video\/arrest-made-in-long-island-acid-attack-that-happened-nearly-5-years-ago\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> will go before a judge<\/a> Tuesday morning, sources said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>More details are expected to be revealed Tuesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/gusoff-5-image-720.jpg#.jpeg\" alt=\"gusoff-5-image-720.jpg \" height=\"349\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                CBS2<\/p>\n<p>  Case remained unsolved for years<\/p>\n<p>When CBS News New York&#8217;s Carolyn Gusoff spoke with her in March, Ikram said she was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/long-islands-nafiah-ikram-continues-to-heal-3-years-after-brutal-acid-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">in constant pain<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mentally, every day is a challenge,&#8221; Ikram said. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ikram didn&#8217;t know who attacked her. All she knew was that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/nafiah-ikram-elmont-long-island-acid-attack-possible-hate-crime\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a 6-foot-2 man<\/a>\u00a0with a thin build threw the acid in her face before driving off in a red Nissan Altima.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Ikram said she was living in fear because the suspect was free.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m still suffering to this day. Look, I had that surgery to release the scarring and I still can&#8217;t open my mouth. I have scars all over my face and they are still not even halfway done,&#8221; she said in February 2023. &#8220;I&#8217;m still disabled. I can&#8217;t see out of my right side right now. I still need someone to drive me everywhere.&#8221; \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ikram focuses on how far she&#8217;s come<\/p>\n<p>While it isn&#8217;t easy, Ikram tries to be optimistic and focus on how far she&#8217;s come since the incident.<\/p>\n<p>An emotional support pet, journaling daily and skin grafts help her move forward, she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Learning that every day is a new blessing and an opportunity to be great,&#8221; Ikram said. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Her long-term goals include finishing college and possibly becoming a trauma doctor, inspired by her firsthand experience.
