NYC mayor acknowledges issues with disturbing new garbage cans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) \u2014 New York City has been investigating why many New Yorkers still have not received garbage bins they are required to use by June of 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Mayor Zohran Mamdani and his team acknowledged issues with the new garbage bin program launched under the previous administration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/pix11.com\/news\/local-news\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:More Local News;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"> More Local News <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Sanitation Department under Mayor Eric Adams began requiring \u201cproperty owners and building managers of one- and two-family homes and properties with up to 9 residential units\u201d to purchase and use city-approved trash bins.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Critics at the time raised concerns about this mandate, and Adams defended the price as very competitive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/pix11.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:More: Latest News from Around the Tri-State;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"> More: Latest News from Around the Tri-State <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">However, under questioning from State Senator Stephen Chan of southern Brooklyn, Mamdani acknowledged issues with New Yorkers not getting their purchased bins and said his team is looking into it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Mamdani has repeatedly said he views trash containerization as one of the few wins of Mayor Adams\u2019 term.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
